Entertainment For Lively Minds
It's the 'What's Happening With iTunes?' quick podcast
Posted by David Hepworth on 2 September 2010 - 1:00pm.
I've just got off the phone from Andrew Harrison who returned hotfoot from yesterday's Apple unveiling - new iPods, new iTunes and yet another social network called Ping - with some thoughts on what this all means for music and entertainment in the near future. Is it all about The Cloud? What's going to happen to the humble iPod? Will Steve Jobs ever wear anything but that bloody polo neck? This ten minute podcast might help you keep abreast of what's likely to happen next. You can sign up to get the regular Word podcast here or you can stream it below.

Is it just me or...
... is this podcast nowhere to be found?
It's up there
I just downloaded it from iTunes.
Erm...
... it's just me. Gets coat, slinks off, weeps into a glass of red.
is it just me
or has anybody failed to work out how to "like" particular tracks with Ping? Admittedly I only looked at it for approx one and a half minutes before getting bored but I didn't suss it. Or see the point
I logged into it....
and it told me that I couldn't view my profile as I wasn't logged in! Tried a few more times and gave up.
Ho-hum.
Why doesn't the mag just get itself sponsored by Apple and have done with it?
Heh
You make it sound so straightforward.
I don't see...
...the point of Ping. There are any number of social-networking ways of sharing what you're listening to - Apple would've done better to release a widget to interact with Twitter and Facebook etc.
But they don't want to interact,
share or join anything - they want to be the number one! They want everyone to give up Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and err...whatever others there are, I'm such a Luddite - and join the Cult of Ping!
Cult of Ping. TMFTL.
Long time lurker here. Just thought I'd pluck up the courage to wish all of you a merry one and thanks for all the good reading I've enjoyed over the past year.
I had a look
But, firstly, it appeared that your last 10 iTunes choices would be shared with world. As my son used my account last I didn't really want the world to think I loved the Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls.
Secondly, you could only choose 3 genres of music, none of which were traditional English folk. So I gave up.
I know what I like. I don't need to have that reinforced or undermined by others.
Does
Ping Pong?
