Its official...

Americans are STUPID! Ok, we knew that already but this finally confirms it.

How stupid are they really?

I've never met a single one who's shown the slightest interest in Wee Jimmy Krankie.

And British people too?

Quite right.. She hasn't exactly fallen away to obscurity in the UK, has she? Are British people stupid?

John Connolly | 16 April 2008 - 11:30am

Easy to sneer

but she's actually a very good pop singer. I don't give a toss about her music but her technique is admirable.

eddie g | 16 April 2008 - 11:47am

Two to tango

We put the Pussycat Dolls at number one. What's the diff?

Niks | 16 April 2008 - 12:10pm

Interestingly billed

as the heir to Whitney.

So, a couple of mediocre but hummable modern Rn'B albums, marry the wrong guy, take drugs, attempt raunchy comeback when too old and end up residing in the 'where are they now' file.

Don't like Leona's music, but wouldn't wish that on anyone.

As for Americans being stupid, what does that make the English, who unless I've misunderstood, have for the last decade been the the chi hua hua to America's bulldog.

I know the post was tongue-in-cheek (wasn't it?), but who really cares what nationality the artist is at the top of the charts; I thought it was about the music?

Oeufman | 16 April 2008 - 12:50pm

Maybe not stupid...

...just that they are as depressingly susceptible to the Simon Cowell marketing department as people in Britain.

I was in HMV around Christmas and there was a woman standing exitedly by the special four foot high display rack of Leona CDs, on the phone to a friend asking whether she wanted it for Christmas - she then scooped up three copies and took it to the counter where there was a poster advertising the release date for this year's X Factor winner's single (this was about a week before the final).

Resistance is largely futile, you just have to hope they'll all eventually go away.

Simon Hoyle | 16 April 2008 - 1:48pm

Oh dear...

"Americans are STUPID! Ok, we knew that already but this finally confirms it"

Ah, the "American's are stupid" approach....oh how clever you are...

Wouldn't it have been easier for you to say "I don't particularly like Leona Lewis" rather than this lazy and frankly racist view.

David Sutherland | 16 April 2008 - 1:52pm

Woah there!

I didn't agree with it either but it's certainly not racist. Last time I checked half the population of the US were descended from us Brits so we're all the same race. Can people not express their point of view, no matter how simplistic and misdirected, without having accusation of racism thrown at them any more?

Niks | 16 April 2008 - 2:27pm

Ok

I take that back, "racist" was the wrong word...
I live in the US just now and to brand a whole country as "stupid" is wrong.
It's the generalisation I find unappealing

David Sutherland | 16 April 2008 - 2:45pm

Gents

I suspect that gracs' post was throwaway and certainly not intended to spark this kind of debate.

Can't we all just get along?

Fraser Lewry | 16 April 2008 - 2:50pm

I understand...

...and yes we can all get along.

End of debate...I apologise.

David Sutherland | 16 April 2008 - 2:53pm

Another throwaway post

It doesn't really make sense to call someone stupid when you don't know the difference between its and it's...

David Ellcock | 16 April 2008 - 3:35pm

Oooooo

get HER!

Vulpes Vulpes | 16 April 2008 - 6:31pm

I'll keep my gob shut in future!

Thanks Fraser, it WAS an (admittedly rubbish) attempt at 'humour', I'll make sure it won't happen again! As for being racist David, you should've seen me chasing the BNP's local council candidate up my drive last week. And don't even get me started on people who feel the need to correct forum users grammar!

grac | 16 April 2008 - 8:57pm

I think you'll find...

That should have been 'forum users' grammar'. Missing possessive apostrophe.

Niks | 17 April 2008 - 10:31am

right, that's it...
