It's Friday afternoon and you're not doing any work so why not write our advertising for us?

We're talking to potential sponsors about the Word podcast. Obviously it would be asking too much to get them to listen to it. And anyway, they might not *get* it. What we need are testimonials from satisfied customers - pithy one-liners that sum up the place it takes in your lives. For the last year we've been using "one of the few things you really need in life" but you may be able to do even better than that. We'll read out the best ones on the 'cast.

It's one of the few places that music is discussed as if it wasn't invented last week but were new stuff is enthused about as much as some jug band tune from 1923. I genuinely enjoy listening to the cast on my way home from work on a friday and miss it when they are on holiday.

Pods

I subscribe to a few podcasts, but the Word one is the only one I actually make the effort to listen too;Usually on a Sunday night into Monday morning, it helps take away those back to work blues after the weekend. A few one liners:

"Like some Bob Dylan albums, worth perservering with"

"Has matured gracefully into something quite special, always interesting always inspiring, presented by nice sounding people who sound like they're having a ball every week"

"Sometimes gives you a warm glow, like a fisherman tucking into a beef hot pot, after a chilling wind swept night on the North Sea"

"Keep the criminal fraternity of young Islington off the streets, tell them to tune into the Word Podcast every week"

"The best podcast never to have been on the radio"

"Some of it's delightful nonsense, but should be made available on perscription to tinnitus sufferers the world over"

David Wright | 10 October 2008 - 7:39pm

The sound of...

The sound of old Islington.
Other podcasts are available...but they`re rubbish.
Making DIY bearable every week.

gerry d | 10 October 2008 - 7:58pm

erm

Crack open a bottle of red and settle in for a great night of music related chat at the kitchen table with your mates.... and you dont even have to sling em out afterwards. The Word Podcast you know it makes sense.

3/ Unbelievably, it's unscripted!
4/ Life has few certainties, but Mark E. WILL mention an obscure prog band (usually Public Foot The Roman)

My go

The podcast with the odd cast

Andy Barrons | 11 October 2008 - 11:00am

First thing that popped into my head...

"It's not shit."

Chief Kamanawanalea | 11 October 2008 - 11:57am

Second thing...

"We'll listen to anything... even your adverts."

Chief Kamanawanalea | 11 October 2008 - 11:57am

Third (and final) thing...

Nothing else makes me laugh like a hyena to tales of quadrophonic stereos whilst my wife looks on baffled.

Hmm...

Might need a bit of work that one...

Chief Kamanawanalea | 11 October 2008 - 11:59am

If this is for the benefit of potential sponsors

"The listeners have promised to consider buying your product/service in exchange for guaranteeing it continuing."

I listened to the latest podcast and the 2 recent Backstage ones last night and it was the best possible entertainment available to me. I feel so grateful to have access to it - guaranteed to make me laugh out loud and provoke thoughts.

Cornwall Guy | 11 October 2008 - 12:20pm

My nose needs a good clean after this

Like the greatest conversation you think you remember once having in the pub, although of course in reality the podcast is much better than that

So much of TV and radio is laboured over far more and yet is nothing like as enjoyable as the Word podcast

Sven | 11 October 2008 - 4:58pm

Most Podcasts...

I listen to most Podcasts whilst doing household tasks (washing up etc), whilst I sit down without distraction to enjoy a Podcast from The Word.

Essentially true.

Want to know

Where Van Morrison's harmonicas have been?
How James Brown made love?
What Burke Shelley kept in a shoebox?
You need The Word Podcast.
Now with added fidelity - you can actually hear the old buggers.

Graham Johns | 12 October 2008 - 11:06pm

Sorry. Missed the 'pithy one liners' bit

Imagine it as one line.

Graham Johns | 12 October 2008 - 11:08pm

Listening to the podcast gives me a reason to walk the dog

or do the housework.

Believe it or not, there are podcasts that don't suck.

Sam Fiddian | 13 October 2008 - 1:48am

Same point

" The Word Pocast ". The Dog Don´t Get No Walk Without It

On The Fence | 13 October 2008 - 9:49am

What about...

... "Its so good I listen twice"?

Nicodemus | 13 October 2008 - 3:19pm

Hmm...

The Word podcast - full of more good cheer than Van Morrison filling out his tax return.

Patrick Crowther | 13 October 2008 - 4:38pm

The

Yet another...

The Word podcast - cheerfully chipping away at the coalface of culture.

Patrick Crowther | 13 October 2008 - 8:29pm

Might as well face it

I'm addicted to Word

Gooner | 16 October 2008 - 4:10pm
