It's a Crowded House now

Well I never thought I’d ever think this, BUT New Zealand has a got as good a music scene, these days as anywhere, it seems. It’s Kiwi Music Month. Every May, for the last few years, this is a thing this country does. But the inferiority complex has gone. Now, we’re insulted it’s just a month. For instance these acts
Rene Louise Carafice (think Polly Harvey with a Casio)
Street Chant
Heart Attack Alley
Little Bushman
Anika Moa
The Adults
Trinity Roots
Phoenix Foundation
DelGirl
TFF
Pumice/The Coolies
The Eversons
The Checks
Will Crummer
There’s heaps more. The above just from top of my head, & all as good as anything Britain is doing right now.

Wow
I live in Australia and haven't heard of any of those bands (except maybe Phoenix Foundation) - I must be out of touch
I live in the UK...
...and have only heard of one of these bands - The Phoenix Foundation - but I'm also pretty out of touch.
The Checks
Is that a Thin Lizzy kind of in-joke band name?
I assume it's pronounced "The Chicks" in NZ?
I like The Checks
First heard them through this track
think you're missing
the three best ones too!
The Ruby Suns
Lawrence Arabia
Connan And The Mockasins
Grayson Gilmour
This guy's worth a look as well.
And good to see Street Chant get a mention. Gideon Coe's been playing quite a bit of them.
Are they on Flying Nun?
Whatever happened to Straitjacket Fits?
They got The Chills and
They got The Chills and decided to get Clean
Flying Nun
Roger Shepherd is about to start a massive re-issue programme of all the Flying Nun stuff as well as new material from Grayson Gilmour and various others.
One guy getting the reissue treatment is Shayne P Carter. This track of his from his days with The DoubleHappys is a belter....
just got round to listening to this
great tune - thanks!
