It's been ages. What say we DO THE RANDOMIZER right here, right now!
It has been kidnapped and passed off as one of their own by lesser sites but this remains the one true home of THE RANDOMIZER, the only music survey that isn't just an exercise in making yourself look good.
These are the rules, arrived at by the board of management and rigorously enforced. You take your iPod or iTunes or the MP3 software of your choice, put it on "random" or "shuffle" and then read off the first five (5) tunes that appear. I shall begin:
Clarence Carter: Soul Deep
Girls Aloud: Sound Of The Underground
Blind Willie McTell: Running Me Crazy
Psychedelic Furs: Pretty In Pink
Sufjan Stevens: Romulus
Cheat and we will know. Everyone will know. Small children will refuse to smile at you. Urchins will openly laugh at you in the street. Your hard drive will crash.

This is my first message as normally don't get involved with these things but love the concept especially peoples explanations of why it is not a setup.
I defy anyone to think that I was 'effecting' when this selection came up:

3. Sir Alex/One Foot on the Salmon - Famous Five
4. Cardboard Boxes - Loudon Wainwright (still better then the kids)
5. Fistful of Love - Anthony and the Johnsons (probably the only track I have actually listened to in the last year!)

The Conet Project

Oh no, you've got it all wrong...
Always nice to meet someone who understands the greatness of 'Chewing Gum' - a stunning tune from a surprisingly good album. And I don't normally like pop...
Why can't mine start with Soul Deep? Or Clarence Carter? Or both
Shakin' All Over - Johnny Kidd & The Pirates

3 Out Of Order Dub - Prince Jammy & The Aggrovators
4 Down To The Wire - Buffalo Springfied (Decade)
5 Down Home Girl - Alvin Robinson (Stoned Alchemy)- original versions of songs covered by The Stones.
For the second month in a row I've randomised 3 from the same album (Flashing Echo - Trojan Dub 1970-1980) and for the second month in a row, I have copies of all of Sven's list (24 April, 10.20am).
Well that's a bit spooky
I only have the Buffalo Springfield track from your list, since I own a copy of Decade. I suspect your collection of music is quite a bit larger than mine. Mine's all CDs anyway and my MP3 player is a rather feeble 2GB. Never mind the width, feel the quality.
King tubby
King tubby's stuff is excellent, I have a 2 cd set "In a Fine Style" (could be wrong about the title) which is absolutely brill!!
Haven't we done this recently?
Any way I don't mind giving it another go so here goes -
Rusted Pipe - DNA featuring Suzanne Vega.
Cafe Del Mar (Michael Woods Remix) - Energy 52
A-Punk - Vampire Weekend ( Brilliant to run to on the treadmill)
I am who I am - Ben's Brother.
Wake Up - The Arcade fire.
My clunking, wheezing 4-year-old mp3 player gives you...
1) Weezer - Living Without You
2) The Magnetic Fields - *SILENCE* (Great, I've just realised I have a song on my mp3 player which is, essentially, 4 minutes 32 seconds of nothing. I wonder if the Magnetic Fields had to pay John Cage to 'cover' this...)
3) The Amps - Pacer Pixies
4) The Cooper Temple Clause - The Same Mistakes
5) Nick Lowe - The Club
Thank you to Mr Lowe for sparing my blushes there, the other 4 are surely ripe for deletion

Tom Waits - Blind Love
Nick Cave - Loom Of The Land

Not bad at all; proud of all of these, with the possible exception of Dare. I seem to have made it through with musical dignity intact!
rubbish...
the inclusion of Dare should have no impact on your 'musical dignity'...i mean, them's is the rules about these parts ANYWAY, no matter what you come up with (cf endless 'Guilty Pleasures' discussions, passim), but for my money, it's one of THE standout singles of, what was it, 2006?
Apologies!
Sorry - I only meant that Dare isn't really representative of most of my music. I not ashamed of any music I like, its just the odd few tracks that are only here because I run someone else's iPod on my computer. And on reflection, Dare is actually pretty good. I formally retract my statement.
After All I've Tried.
"C'Mon Every Beatbox" - Big Audio Dynamite
"If You Think You Know How To Love Me" - Pat Benatar
"Underneath It All" - Nine Inch Nails

Hmm, 2 eighties, 2 from the same album and a curve ball latino thing. Don't know what that says about me...
Not too shabby
Ok, so I got lucky
Statue Of Liberty - XTC (this IS pop!)
Cliffs - Aphex Twin (this isn't)
You & I - Dennis Wilson (the other genius Wilson? - discuss)
Loving Cup - Rolling Stones (effortless, grooooovy and LOVING that brass)
Boy From The Moon - The Milk & Honey Band (criminally underrated - epic and very beautiful)
I hardly ever use the shuffle, on this evidence maybe I should do it more often... stone cold classics the lot of them other than the Aphex Twin track for which the words 'coasting' and 'filler' could have been invented.
And if you haven't heard them then check out The Milk & Honey Band who are on Andy Partridge's Ape label (strange symmetry there, first and last).. one of their finest moments.
Was It All That Long Ago?
... anyway...
I Believe In My Soul - Dexys Midnight Runners
I Shot The Sheriff - Bob Marley
What Would I Be - Val Doonican
Rattlesnakes - Llyod Cole & The Commotions

"I Love You Golden Blue" - Sonic Youth
"C'Mon Kids (Mekon remix)" - Boo Radleys
"Get Out Of My Life Woman" - Lee Dorsey
"Fear" - Throwing Muses
"North West Fashion Show" - The Fall
That Boo Radleys remix is a very odd and clanking thing indeed. Sounds like a giant steam-powered robot trying to mate with a traction engine.
hmmmm looks like my ipod is depressed...
Black Arrow, Bleeding Heart - Whiskeytown Faithless St
At My Window Sad and Lonely - Billy Bragg and Wilco Mermaid Ave
Should've Been in Love - Wilco A.M.
Suiciday - Bob Schneider
You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi Crossroad
My iPod's taste is still better than mine...
The Decemberists: The Sporting Life
David Bowie: Future Legend
Natacha Atlas: Daymalhum
John Cooper Clarke: Psycle Sluts Pts. 1 & 2
New Scorpion Band: The Truth Sent From Above
Oh gawd, that almost looks too cool to be genuine. Thankfully, closer inspection reveals a track that's just an album-intro rather than a song (Bowie), and a genuine obscurity (New Scorps) from a brilliant English folk band whose ranks include bassoon-playing genius loon, Brian Gulland, who used to be in Gryphon, back in the day. Nice to see JCC represented, after his starring role in the recent Swearing thread.
A reet mixed bag...
Hot Corner - The B-52's (Thank you Word!)
You Used to Hold Me - Ralphi Rosario

This time I used the shuffle on my PC as it had 74GB to randomise I figured it would reflect better - seems pretty much the same actually; I'm proud of all the music I choose to keep!
Everyone Loves Drinking The Summerhouse Grace
Everyone Wants To Lose Control - The Tranzmitors (Rough Trade Counter Culture 07)
I Love Perth - Pavement (Wowee Zowee: Sordid Sentinels Edition)
Drinking About Life - The Wildhearts (Earth Vs. The Wildhearts)
The Summerhouse - Divine Comedy (A Secret History)
Natural Grace - Ride (Carnival Of Light)
Pavement and Wildhearts tunes make up a good portion of my available space - as do tracks from the tremendous Counter Culture comps. In light of that, quite representative of what I have on there, topped off with a couple of numbers to suit the steadily improving weather. Result.
EDIT - Wouldja believe? The very next track was one gleaned from a Word CD (a Felice Brothers number, as it happens). Lawks!
Random Modnar

"Bang And Blame" By R.E.M. from the album "Monster"
"Borrowed Wings" by Jim White from the album "Drill A Hole In That Substrate And Tell Me What You See"
Considering how weighted my pod is in their favour, it's very rare to press "Shuffle Songs" and not come across Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits or Richard Thompson within five.
Also consider my Word forum virginity well and truly lost.
By the way, Humphrey Lyttelton R.I.P.
Once more for good luck
