It was 30 years ago today...

Mint's picture

that one of the great pop albums was released, Dare by The Human League, an album that has truly stood the test of time, an album that still makes me smile and feel all is good in the world, an album that still thrills and makes me sing out loud, and an album that still makes me dance round the house like a loon. You can't ask for much more than that.

Out of 1000s

This album is a definite in my all time top ten. But bugger, 30 years old...

THIRTY YEARS?

I'm just off for a bit of a weep. I may be some time.

Great to see a young-ish Peel on there too

...but what the hell was going on with the lighting? "This is Phil talking"; we'll have to take your word for it, Mr O, we can't see you!

It's great...

...but the remix LP, The League Unlimited Orchestra's Love and Dancing is better. I've bought it so many times, having worn out vinyl, given it away, left it at parties etc. The version of Do Or Die on there is sublime and so ahead of its time.

And the very next day

every girl in town danced like the league girls on totp....

Parts of it are very dated

but every track is a memory. Every single one. I'm word perfect on the whole album and I still love it. A classic indeed.

Thanks for the nudge, Mint

30 frickin' years? Impossible! Mind you, those were the days when the fourth single released from an album could still sell a million copies...

And in a strange piece of Sheffield-Electronic synchronicity I'm currently listening to Cabaret Voltaire, but as soon as it's done, "Dare" is going on...
