It sounds like A meets B

Dave Amitri's picture

I enjoy the "My Nights In" part of the blog and I've found that reviewing an album is easiest for me if I use the "it sounds like A meets B" method of describing the sound. For example for Plan B I used "it sounds like Jason Statham meets Smokey Robinson" and I've just described Two Door Cinema Club thus "it sounds like Hazel Dean meets Big Country". So the obligatory question is this, what two things come together to make what your favourite band sounds like?

A favourite band

Which has cropped up elsewhere today - Elbow sound like Jake Thackray meeting Peter Gabriel down at the Fairlight Arms for a beery shambolic man hug

One I liked was when a (NME?) journalist

described Echobelly as "The Angelic Upstarts fronted by a Blue Peter presenter"
In our house we've decided that, in its finer moments, the new Pugwash album is C cubed - 10CC meets latter-period XTC:

... with a bit of Jeff Lynne thrown in.

I remember having watched the brill first four episodes of "Heroes" telling my mate that it was "X Men meets X Files". I'm convinced it started to become rubbish the moment I recommended it...
