is it just me or are london concert tickets getting WAY to expensive lately?

was appalled at prices for the recent clapton/beck shows at the 02-up to 130 odd quid for a seat near the front, 70-80 for a crap seat right up the top of the venue. a few years ago fifty quid seemed to be top price for a gig by a "heritage" artist but now seems to be the cheapest. am i alone in thinking anything more than this is too expensive for one show? i basically feel like im being priced out of the market and i need to be a member of a super rich class of society that can afford to spend one hundred to two hundred quid (if you are buying two tickets)on a night out.

until these morons start playing to empty halls

they'll carry on charging these crazy prices . I'd have to come by that sort of money a bit easier than working for it before I paid those sort of prices .

they'll carry on charging these crazy prices . I'd have to come by that sort of money a bit easier than working for it before I paid anywhere near that .£20-£25 tops would be the most I'd pay and it would have to be a small venue . £80 to sit half a mile away from the stage , someones having a laugh .
On a slightly different subject , my boss had a phone call today telling him he has to buy a licence for the radio in the workshop , he invited the guy round to watch the ritual dumping of the radio on the skip . They really are getting desperate to get money out of you any way they can .

I've blogged about this before

And I agree that these prices are ridiculous. All my friends are feeling the pinch at the moment so I don't know who's buying these tickets.

On the other hand, the Clapton/Beck and Clapton/Winwood tickets were/are heavily advertised so maybe they've been sluggish sellers?

Never paid this...

... and I never will.

If no one did, the prices would come down. Vote with your wallets folks.

its bad

The problem is, whilst these heritage artists are charging a small fortune for these arena shows, the smaller ones are creeping up too! Over the last 2 years I have started going to fewer & fewer gigs & the money being shelled out is a massive reason!
I now refuse to buy tickets from Ticketmaster or any of the bigger ticket agencies as they even charge for printing out your own tickets now!!! Something needs to be done as soon it will be £30+ for a gig in a small venue!

Printing my own tickets

I don't mind paying a booking fee as long as it's not ridiculous (I've come to consider that the price printed on the ticket is effectively the wholesale price) I don't have any problem with printing my own ticket but I do have a problem with being charged a "convenience fee" for doing it. Exactly who is it most convenient for?

Avoid Ticketmaster and Seetickets wherever possible

They tend to have the highest associated fees. Places like Wegottickets and Ticketweb are better, or better yet, a local agency; round here, Bristol Ticket Shop. These may not be so available for larger gigs, but they're the ones that are more expensive!
