Is it just me..

Has anyone else noticed that in many of the interviews, discussions and the like in the popular media - music, television, sport, radio, etc. - the interviewee will often spout something along the lines of "yes, yes, no, no, blah, blah" or "no, yes, I mean, blah, blah" in their answers. This is never done in a Vicky Pollard way. The person has a loose grip on grammatical sense but believes themselves to be oh so interesting and anyone listening to be gripped. For me, the interview instantly becomes a switch off. And they`re all at it. Stop it now.

It's a strange tic

Sometimes you have to read between the words.

I hear it a lot as meaning "Yes (I know people say that but) no (that's not the case)"

It comes out as "Yes, no"

At least that's how I have caught myself using the "Yes, no" response.

I do it all the time but at least I have the sense to feel like a blithering idiot when I do so.
