The moment that this event happened to me, I instantly thought of the fact that I had to tell the world about it. I went to see Don Letts do a evening of films and book readings in Brisbane, which was followed by a dj set of the best that Don had to offer. It started off great, a few beers where had and we were shown the first film that don had prepared which was a new documentary on the Clash. The movie was really good with long music sequences where arguments and discussions flowed through the crowd about all the clips and which was the best Clash album and all that kinda thing.

The only thing that threw me in the whole film was the fact that it stated over and over again that the Clash made 5 albums. Once I heard that a cannon went off in my well marinated brain that surely there are 6 albums made by the Clash. I know that nobody likes Cut the Crap and it was missing half of the originals members but surely it was a Clash album. Can we say that Oasis have only made 3 albums? or that the byrds ended in 1967? The film ended as well with something about the band making combat rock and breaking up. Is this a form of re-writing history or what?

The next brilliant thing that happened was after Don gave a speech and read a bit from his book. He offered the crowd a choice of four films. At which stage the crowd were i think on the same level as my friend and I who it seemed were drinking scotch and dry like water. But to get to the point, we were offered four films. One was about George Clinton, one was about Gil Scott heron, one was about the history of black music in the uk, and the last one was on everyone's favorite alien Sun Ra. A hoard of drunk aussies are shouting every name on that list over each other and finally the movie about the influence of black music in the UK. (featuring an interview with quite a "healthy" looking Amy Winehouse) the movie starts and in about five minutes the films jumps and skips and finally it is stopped by don and he takes another vote of what to watch. For some reason there is a militant faction down the front demanding Sun RA that's getting louder. Which by the looks of it none of the other people in the theatre have ever heard of.

So we watching a hour documentary about the genius of Sun RA. Which was good but the best line in it was made by one of his old groupies which went. "Nobody ever saw the humour in Sun Ra's music." which made me cry with laughter because, the crowd have been laughing with shock since the film started.

Anyway dub music was playing into the early morning, in an old sloped movie theater with the seats ripped out, while spotty white 20 somethings shuffled from side to side.
