Is there a Beatles song that everyone likes?

walker182's picture

I was quite suprised to find on the recent thread, "Albums that would be even better if you ditched one track", that there are Beatles fans who really don't like "Day in the Life" and "She Said She Said"!

The former I had always considered to be the peak of Lennon / McCartney / George Martin's creativity, while the latter I had always felt best represented the "cool" edge of the Beatles (ie: the tunes which have gone on to inspire a million indie bands)

So the challenge here is to find the Beatle track that everyone likes. I'm going to make a suggestion and if someone does'nt like it then they can make another suggestion until we get one that everyone agrees is great?

My choice is Ticket to Ride. It came fairly near to the middle of their career and marked perfeclty the transition between the early and late Beatles sound...

Just an experiment - it might not work but hey ho...over to the massive...

It certainly is great

And from probably my favourite HJH album too.

My personal vote would be I've Just Seen a Face.

Not my favourite Beatles song but it was the first one that made me sit up and take a closer look at them. Up until then I just sort of presumed that I knew the Beatles- they are so much part of cultural fabric that you just seem to know the songs without necessarily having explicitly listened to them.

I don't know what it is about the song- maybe it's that not being a single meant that it has not been overplayed- but I love it so.

Good question: there probably isn't one

that gets a unanimous thumbs aloft gesture but on the other hand I'd bet there's not a single Beatles song that no-one likes.

Ticket to Ride

is my favourite Beatles song.

Surely no-one dislikes You've Got To Hide Your Love Away either?

I do.

Oddly though I'm a seasoned Beatles denier the one song of theirs I do like a lot is Ticket to Ride.

Here comes the sun

Always a favourite of mine, discovered by the saucepan lids through "Beatles rock band" and now a school run request

'Something'?

I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't like it.

"Rain"

I've never heard a word said against it. And no wonder. 'Tis quite humungously fab.

"Rain"

Great cover version of "Rain" by the shoegazing favourites "Chapterhouse"

Beatles not on iTunes

So, is it possible to buy a remixed Rain, given it's not on an album?

Hey, Dude

Totally agree with you re Day in the Life: to my mind the converse is true, ie the one track worth saving from a now rather dated album. One of their best.
As far as likeability, I fail to see how anyone could not love Hey Jude, except of course for the terminally perverse, obtuse and awkward squad - of which I venture there are a few round here (!)

We Can Work It Out

Never tire of this Macca classic

Puts hands up.

I think it's Lennon's input into that song which makes it so great.

Ticket To Ride is a good choice.

I'd say Hard Days Night as well. I find it hard to imagine anyone hating that tune. Plus the whole title sequence of the film while that is playing is just a joy

Surely...

...anyone with ears loves Sgt. Pepper (Reprise) and Back In The USSR?

0

Sadly I never liked Back In The USSR

I always felt it skirted the shores of novelty tunes.

Twist and

Shout. Anyone who says they don't like it is a liar, because they WILL have danced to it somewhere and loved it. Even me, once or maybe twice, when drunk.

Hey Bulldog

I've never met anyone who didn't like Hey Bulldog - and I'd second Rain also, although many people have never heard it sadly.
