Is 'talking about it' the new 'listening to it'?

Is it just me, or do you too prefer podcasts to music these days?
I'll choose humourous banter about tunes over actual tunes every time, particularly in the car.
Whilst on the subject, for the love of God, guys, invest in an audio compressor. Then you could back away from the microphone willy nilly. I'm sure I'm developing 'Ellen Deafness' after turning the stereo up when one of you has moved to the back of the office. Then BOOM!

Also, regarding sound quality
If Fraser is going to contribute (and I'd very much like him to) please can we hear him more or less loud and clear like the other 'casters. He's been fading away of late and his bon mots deserve better. Of course it is free you know.
Yep
What he/she said.
Try this week's when it's up
Getting the levels right when you're contributing is tougher than when you're not, for some reason... but I'm getting there.
you are doing a grand job
matt who?
Have you tried...
...using The Levelator?
http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator
It's a breeze to use and could make all the difference.
Yes
We used to use it, but seem to get better results these days using Audacity's plug-in compressor, which does a better job than the Levelator of keeping the machine noise down.
Agreed...
The sound on the recent podcasts has been bad, keep having to adjust the volume when each person speaks - or is it my age..?
It's not you, it's me
Honest.
No, it wasn't you...
It was Eamonn Forde. I couldn't understand a word he was saying. White noise.
Fair point
I like what he says when he writes it down. Could he bring a translator in please?
Have had the pleasure of a pint with EF
It gets worse as he gets funnier.
Glad to hear it's not my ears going fuzzy...
although it does add a slightly dangerous edge if you have to tweak the volume when Mark Ellen is on, kind of like a Podcast Russian Roulette!
Anyway, have to balance my negative with a positive - it's good to hear you contribue more to the Podcasts.
It ain't easy...
I do some part time work engineering on a radio station The Massive may not listen to a lot, concerned mainly with sport and talk.
Keeping the levels even is a nightmare when the frontofmic talent moves around the room.
