Is this funny or not?
Posted by David Hepworth on 2 March 2010 - 2:02pm.
Jerry Seinfeld's new show "The Marriage Ref", in which celebrities advise on couples' domestic issues, opened last night in the States to terrible reviews. I think it looks quite funny.

Well...
I laughed. But them I'm fond of taxidermy.
Well
I laughed too. I have no feelings about taxidermy.
Yes!!
Not really into reality TV but this does look rather funny....almost like an extended episode of TV Burp Oh Oh Oh Oh I I I I No No No I Can't I Can't I Can't!
It's American
So the BBC won't be showing it then.
Which is a shame because I laughed.
If this was made here
and didn't have the Seinfeld name attached to it or any other comedian it's okay to like, would we give it the time of day at all and dismiss it without even seeing it?
Probably.
It's quite funny though.
But is that the funniest
bit? Show a one minute clip that's well edited to maximise the humour and the funny pay-off and then spend 10 interminable minutes trying to be funny about it in the studio? Surely this will depend on the quality of the guests and their innate ability (or otherwise) to be spontaneous and witty.
What I don't like about it...
And it's by no means limited to this programme, is that we're seeing real people behaving like fictional people. Her repeated 'Oh my God' being the worst, most artificial example of this.
Agreed
I know nothing about the show, and I still wasn't sure after watching the clip whether it was staged, acted out or for real.
I guess the days of innocence when people reacted naturally to a camera are long gone.
not funny
staged and I never did get the Seinfeld thaang {insert funky slap bass}
I've seen the full episode of this, and...
... it's stupid, but I laughed out loud a lot, though I think this is mostly because of the magnitude of starpower Jerry Seinfeld (as producer) can draw onto the show - an upcoming episode has Larry David, Ricky Gervais and Madonna as the panel - you may not like them, but by god that's one hell of a guestlist.
Imagine a UK version: Jimmy Carr, Vic Reeves and Davina McCall? Not the same, is it?
