Is this a good idea or what???
Hold on, hold on....let me get it all down on virtual paper before you drown me out with shouts of "or what"...
Not sure if this has been covered previously, and not thought about how it would work logistically but....
We Wordies are always going on about the music we've got, the CD's we've bought/loved/hated etc etc.
Has anyone ever thought that it might be an idea to organise some sort of "Swap Shop" between us along the lines of "I've somehow gone and bought a second copy of xxx, would anyone like it"
Could gift/swap/sell as appropriate??
Any thoughts from anyone with a more creative mind than I've got at 5.15 on a Thursday afternoon?
Has the concept of swapping CD's been superceded by downloading as a whole?
If so.......I'm sorry to have wasted the Word Dragons time here in the Cyber Den.

Great idea.
I have a small pile of obscure and difficult to classify CDs here that I've somehow bought two copies of over the years, usually due to the effects of large glasses of single malt in the wee small hours whilst browsing The Freak Emporium (R.I.P.).
If this is a flyer, I'll start the ball rolling with a list, as long as no-one laughs at the sort of ancient nonsense I waste my money on. Er, I mean, the utterly desirable titles I've managed to acquire twice. Or even thrice.
Here goes.
John Martyn - Inside Out (not the remaster)
Donovan - HMS Donovan
Grobschnitt - Rockpommel's Land
Juicy Lucy - Who Do You Love?
Faine Jade Recital - Introspection
Strawbs - From The Witchwood
Strawbs - Just A Collection Of Antiques etc (SWAPPED!)
Fairport Convention - Fairport Convention (not the remaster)
Jackson Browne - The Pretender
Cirkus - One plus
The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - Part One
The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band - Volume Three
Eyes Of Blue - Crossroads Of Time / In Fields Of Arden
John Dummer's Oobleedooblee Band - Oobleedooblee Jubilee
Second Hand - Reality
The United States Of America - The United States Of America
Gorecki - 3rd Symphony - The Naxos disc
Any offers, swappers? Call Noel now!
i'm interested
one vote aye
Anyone want a scatched copy of...
'Breakfast In America'?! It was the first CD I ever bought way back in 1986...
No?
Oh well...
We could call this swap shop
Limewire.
Good idea
Foxy, I'd like a copy of Antiques & Curios. I'll have to find something to swap.
The only thing that comes to mimd immediately is Joni Mitchell's Hejira. Let me know if this is feasible.
Of course this leads to a new thread - discs I have bought that I already have / discs I haven't bought because I wan't sure if I already had it.
It's seeking to avoid the
"discs I haven't bought because I wasn't sure if I already had it" scenario that got me into this mess in the first place.
Blimey
at least a few don't think I'm mad.
Alternatively in an act of benevolence to our fellow sufferers we could always give them away...not necessarily swaps but things we bought and don't listen to anymore because
a) we grew out of them
b) we never grew into them
c) we've just got too many of the wretched silver disks and need a bit of a tidy up to make space for more new ones.
Great idea
if only I hadn't recently charity-swopped most of my doubles / unwanted CDs recently...
Further evidence
to support my theory, backed up by years of bitter experience, that nothing blights a life quite like bad timing.
I am up for this
but only if any Saddo out there wants to take my 2 Joanna Newsom cd's - second one only played twice and on both occasions not all the way through.
(tumbleweed)
(dust)
That's the sound of a room full of music critics trying not to establish eye contact.
(tumbleweed)
Actually, I can do a swap for those...
...for two Joanna Newsom cds that I'm not enjoying and I'd like to swap them for something else... ohh. dammit.
I want to like her, I really do, but it's not happening and life is very short.
turned 50
on Monday, a neighbour popped round with a card and a CD, a very nice gesture in it's self until I tell you what the disc is - Nickleback ~ Silver Side Up
any takers...?
thought not
I'd have been more than happy to take those Strawbs CDs off you but you've managed to match most of my meagre Strawbs collection
