ipod Touch Dead....Help Needed!

geacher53's picture

My iPod touch is showing the black screen of death, and it's totally unresponsive to anything. I think the battery's frazzled, but can any Members Of The Massive suggest anything I may do to perhaps bring it back to life before I hike up to Glesga' to my nearest apple shop?
Two things: It was fully charged some two hours before it died, and when it's plugged into iTunes, it is not recognised. So.....

Try www.ipodjuice.com

I sent my iPod away to iPod Juice in the USA (I'm in Aus) for a new battery- they do repairs as well. They are very efficient and excellent value for money (hugely cheaper than buying a new one, even when you factor in the postage). I was very impressed (and no, I don't work for them...).

Believe it or not, this does work

Have you tried hitting the side of it quite hard?

I read about this method on the net when my iPod Classic died, seemingly for ever. None of the usual methods - the Five Rs, rebooting, emptying and refilling the hard disk, etc - had worked, and I was about to begrudgingly hand over $300+ for a new one when I read about people who had simply hit the thing (usually against their knee, for some reason) and brought it back to life. Willing to try anything, I gave it a few (well, quite a lot) really hard whacks - with a fair amount of frustration behind them - and was delighted when the screen returned to normal. It's still slightly temperamental, and beating the hell out of the thing would probably void any warranty so this would have to be a last resort, but at least this method worked for me.

Just to prove I'm not alone: http://uclaradio.com/2007/03/12/how-to-fix-an-ipod/

Good luck!

Don't do that for the iPod touch

Because that's for the occasions when the Hard Drive plays up - the touch doesn't have a hard drive (unlike the Classic) - it's got a chip which serves as the memory (storage) instead, so I'm pretty sure it would only lead to a bruised knee and some choice language.
