Iplayer help!

blake's picture

I started using BBC iPlayer last week, downloading the first 2 eps of survivors, all was fine.
i've tried downloading sundays Top Gear, and Charles brookers screenwipe, but once the downloads are completed, i click, watch now, and iPlay plays the station Ident, and the stops, previously it showed the ident [say 15 seconds] and then preceeded to the program.

I'mn not the most technical of people, and Iplayer help eem pretty useless/ad slow

Is anyone else having the same problems ???
Can you help???

iPlayer not playing...

I just had a go after reading your 'post' and had no problems. Sorry - don't mean to be patronising' - are you sure it isn't 'paused'? Make sure you don't have a play button waiting to be clicked.

Secondly, it may be something to do with the browser you are using. Are you watching via Internet Explorer? I checked using Firefox and Safari - no problems.

It's often worth trying a secondary browser in case there is just some irritating conflict with (usually) Internet Explorer.

As you're not very technical - just go to Google and input Firefox, and download their browser - totally safe - no nasty virus things or whatever.

Finally - try 're-booting'; that is - turn off your PC and then wait 30 seconds before turning it on again. You'd be surprised at how often that clears a problem.

iPlayer iProblems

I think iPlayer and some versions of Firefox have had a personality clash.
And I still have a few problems with trying to play radio programmes on iPlayer; if you stop it or try to rewind/forwardwind 5 minutes, it seems to ban you from listening to that programme ever again.
It's mostly a wonderful development, but there are still lots of issues for the BBC to sort out, I think.

The iPlayer Online Help is very good

They do of course direct you to try the FAQs etc before you contact them by email, but unlike many online help facilities, in my experience they truly engage, look into your own specific circumstances and will stick with your problem until it's sorted.

It's a sad reflection on other online help facilities that we don't regard that as the obvious thing to try first!
