iPlayer / HDMI sound

Twangothan's picture

Anyone had / solved problems with HDMI sound and the iPlayer? My laptop happily plays DVDs with sound through the telly via an HDMI connection, but iPlayer won't for some reason. I assume it is an iPlayer problem as other audio pops out of the speakers OK. Any thoughts?

Muchas gracias amigos.

It does work.

I can't help with a solution but just to say that I can watch iPlayer stuff via the HDMI connection to the TV. Are you using Vista or Windows 7? If so, each sound source has it's own volume control and mute, do you have the same problem with all browsers?

Vista

I'm using it in download mode though. Is your sound coming out of the TV speakers OK?

Sound OK

If you're using a separate application then make sure it's unmuted in the sound applet. If I use VLB for watching iplayer downloads, I do sometimes have problems with the first file but then when I drag and drop the second file the sound is OK but that is the case for any file I play using VLB and that's my video player of choice.

VLB?

I just use the iPlayer desktop on my laptop. I don't use a separate application. I just use it off line after downloading the programme.

What's in a name?

I must stop posting before I've woken up!
I meant VLC. What I do is to download the mp4 file from iplayer using the iplayer downloader (po-ru.com/projects/iplayer-downloader) then play then whenever I want to (without any time restrictions) using VLC (www.videolan.org/vlc/). My new television has a USB socket which means I can watch iplayer files from a USB stick if I can be bothered to transfer them.
