iphone help

mdavies27's picture

After finally giving in and upgrading to a shiny new 3gs iphone yesterday I've been unable to set up my email account settings to send email. Incoming is fine. My email is with Tiscali and have always used the outgoing server 'smtp.tiscali.co.uk' with previous phones and its worked fine. If anyone has tiscali set up correctly or knows of any other outgoing server details I should enter to make it work, i'd be very grateful.

thanks

smtp

I'm just guessing, but shouldn't the smtp details be those of your mobile provider? If it's o2, it'll be smtp.o2.co.uk or similar...

Fraser's right

It's not an iPhone thing, it's a reluctance of certain ISPs to provide outgoing support for emails.

I had exactly the same issue with virgin, and switching to an O2 outgoing smtp address did the trick.

smtp.o2.co.uk works for me, but you will need to get an outgoing username and password from o2.

Username format is [your o2 id]@o2.co.uk, and I think will have been set up when you took out your contract with o2 from memory. Register on their website and you should be able to get set up ok.

Update

I registered on the o2 site, and am now sending and receiving e-mail on my iPhone with these details.

smtp.o2.co.uk
username@o2.co.uk
password
SSL off
Server Port 465
