Intros round - blog style

spt's picture

OK this'll probably die on its arse but here goes. Is it possible to play the Buzzcocks intros round purely by writing out the sounds?

First one - what song this the intro to?:

Check check check
Awoo-oo awoo-oo awoo-oo awoo-oo awoo-oo awoo-oo
Tick tickada tick, tick tick-tick. Tick tickada tick, tick tick-tick
Dowowadadow dowowadadow dowowadadowdadowowow dowowadadowdadowowow dowowadadowdadowowow dowdow
Blauauau blauauau blauauau blauauau blauauau blauauau
Chank chank chank chank chank- chank chank
Squeeeeeee-ooooo....

Post answers/new intros for guessing below.

Cue tumbleweed.

1
Colin H | 26 September 2011 - 4:07pm

David Bowie - Fashion

Must be.

Perhaps.

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 September 2011 - 4:10pm

Trick question

These are Laurie Anderson lyrics.

0
Moose the Mooche | 26 September 2011 - 4:10pm

Good crikey, Slotbadger's got it!

Cannonball by the Breeders. And here's how it should have sounded:

Erm I've got nowhere to go from here - HELP!!!

0
spt | 26 September 2011 - 4:14pm

What about...

Boom-boom-boom PAH
Boom-boom-boom PAH

0
Moose the Mooche | 26 September 2011 - 4:21pm

Too...

easy! Well done.

0
Patrick Crowther | 26 September 2011 - 4:22pm

How about, topically

Danga-dang chakka-chak dang-dang
Danga-dang chakka-chak dang-dang
Danga-dang chakka-chak dang-dang
Danga…Whumpa Whumpa Whumpa

0

0

And not unrelated to yours.

0
Bob | 26 September 2011 - 5:42pm

it's almost

Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin.

0
Cadabra | 26 September 2011 - 8:46pm

Ooh, get her!

"Almost" indeed. I'm hurt. But yes, Heartbreaker is what it is almost.

0
Bob | 26 September 2011 - 9:01pm

You're missing

the introductory DAAAANG at the start, and you're one DA short on the second line. These things matter.

0
Cadabra | 26 September 2011 - 9:22pm

Seek help.

2
Bob | 26 September 2011 - 9:36pm

Hows about

Duh Da Duh Da Duh Duh *pause*
Duh Da Duh Da Duh Duh *pause*

0
DogFacedBoy | 26 September 2011 - 4:55pm

Whole Lotta Rosie?

or does that have an extra da at the end of each line?

0
spt | 26 September 2011 - 5:00pm

Maybe an extra "da"

But Whole Lotta Rosie none the less

0
DogFacedBoy | 26 September 2011 - 5:22pm

Smoke on the Water?

0
Uncle Wheaty | 26 September 2011 - 5:51pm

0
spt | 27 September 2011 - 7:38am

The very beginning goes

Dunggggggg... Nyaaaaaaaarrrr!

[can't be arsed with the main riff]

And by the way, it's not the Sea Captain from The Simpsons.

0

0
Formbyman | 27 September 2011 - 8:09am

Nope

Some clues:

Not a song for someone called Jeff who lives for the moment.
Go on, dip your Toe in the water!
May be popular with a West Country "comedian" pal of Jim Davidson.

It's not

Speakeasy by Shed Seven, is it?

0
milkybarnick | 28 September 2011 - 8:50pm

"AT THE LINK IT'S EASY"...

...foghorns Rick Witter, breaking the only remaining rule of licensing your songs to advertisers, to wit "Do not, under any circumstances, re-record the song to accommodate the name of the product advertised".

I'm fine with people selling their songs onto companies if it makes them a few quid, but changing the words? Fuckin' 'ell.

Sadly, I can't find a video of it. It's hilariously shit.

0
Bob | 28 September 2011 - 9:18pm

Oh Lord

I'd forgotten that. Now all I can think of is one of their other classics:

"She left me on Friiiii-daaaaaaay
and ruined my weeeeeeek-eeeeeeend..."

Saw them live once - they were pretty good, but thinking back, only had a limited range of songs. Happy days.

0
milkybarnick | 28 September 2011 - 9:34pm

I think he excused himself

by claiming that he signed the contract in the pub after a few too many snakebites.

I agee with you - I was outraged at the time. But I can't help thinking if I was at the tail-end of an inevitably short indie career, I might do the same. Though obviously, with all the comeback tours, it's actually been a 20-odd year career.

0
Uncle Monty | 29 September 2011 - 9:57am

Less outraged than sort of amusedly contemptuous.

I always thought Shed Seven were awful - it's just that this was such a spectacularly graceless and cack-handed move that it surprised even me.

Still, it's not as if it was Dylan butchering "Tangled Up In Blue" or anything. No-one's going to mourn "Speakeasy"!

0
Bob | 29 September 2011 - 10:45am

Is it shed seven ?

Well, it certainly wasnt meant to be !

0
jackthebiscuit | 29 September 2011 - 7:31am

How to impress the Massive

If I was to PM one of my mates and tell them that I will put forward the intro to an impossibly obscure Desperate Bicycles B-side, then the mate (or even two of them) could respond immediately with the correct answer - leaving the rest of the Massive agog.

That's the only explanation I can offer as to how someone could possibly identify some of the more obscure ones here. It can't be superior musical knowledge, no way.

Never Mind The Subtitles

If you really want to try this, switch on the subtitles and see what utter lunacy lives in the world of 888.
