Inquisition!
The Massive is great isn't it? That's a rhetorical question, no need to answer. Anyway, although I don't blog so much, I visit this site everyday (when I can) and I occasionally comment (when I have time). It occurred to me recently though that I don't know anybody else who reads the Word. No one. Not a sausage. I don't know any other members of the Massive either. Well at least I don't THINK I do, but you never know what with all these strange pseudonyms. Of course, this could easily be rectified by attending one of the (North West) meet ups, something that I may just do one day (when I develop physical attributes akin to Buster Gonad). From reading the blog however, I gather that the meet-ups have instigated new friendships between some of our brothers and sisters on here. And upon reading Excitable Boy's 'how to choose your favourite album' thread, and learning that DogFacedBoy was also in attendance at Robin Hitchcock's get together, I wondered if any members knew one another before they joined the gang? Did one introduce the other to the Word and the blog?
Genuine interest here, I won't be making any 'clique-y' accusations. Honest!

Occasional blogger...
...Roo actually introduced me to the magazine in the first place, before either of us were on this site. He's been one of my best friends since we met at uni, fifteen years ago.
In the same way, I introduced the mag to our mutual friend Nick (he was best man at my wedding, and despite the two of us being from almost diametrically opposite backgrounds, we're just... brothers. There's no other way to describe it), by way of buying him a gift subscription for his birthday. I've yet to persuade him to come blogside, but I hope to. I've convinced him to start tweeting, so I'm confident of final victory.
Aside from that, this blog has given me some genuine new friends, and plenty more who I think of very affectionately and always enjoy seeing.
Sounds corny, but my life would be the poorer without the Word Massive, and when I get a bit sighy at the squabbles or the constant Dadrock (there's a big ;-) in there, folks!), I just remember that simple fact.
I look forward to perhaps meeting you one day
at a North West mingle, doomah, that's my stomping ground too.
I've only ever felt warmly welcome on this site & I read the "cliquey" threads & posts with a titter. Nothing too heavy is it?
There's a 'Word Bird' badge that I'm coveting too...
Well, you two...
...next NW mingle is a week on Friday, 9 September, at 'An Outlet' in Manchester.
http://www.anoutlet.net/
Go on, you'll love it, they're ace!
See you there...?
NO! Wrong Date! It's been changed!
It's been changed to the 23rd of September - that seemed to be the best date available!!
BUGGER!
How did I miss that?
Might be able to show my face for half an hour but got to be at the airport for eight...
I Don't Know Of Anyone Else Who Reads The Word Either.
Maybe I should go to a Mingle, maybe in that there Londinium.
Eh?
Oh.
'An Outlet'
was mentioned in a WULYF interview recently.
I'm well down wiv the kids, me.
We'll have to see about the 9th...
Crikey
I hope they don't turn up and try and subvert it! BTW do you think their music is any good? I was a bit disappointed..sounded like the kind of Indie music I was listening to 8 years ago, I was expecting the new KLF from what I'd heard.
Yeah get yerself along to the next NW Mingle,
BTW just to re-iterate what Grant said, the next mingle is the 23rd of September not the 9th.
Hey doomah
Before I attended a Mingle I knew nobody who read The Word.
Nevertheless I remember reading about the London shindigs and they sounded like a lot of fun so I was keen, although *very* nervous about attending the first North West meet.
It probably helped that I attended the first NW Mingle on the tail end of a works-do so I only arrived for the last hour and somewhat refreshed. I got a cheer from gathering and was soon chatting to all around me as if we'd known each other for years.
The fact that we've all been on this blog, and read the same magazine and listened to the same podcasts is a great 'in'...we're a diverse bunch but there is lots of shared knowledge/humour and lots to talk about.
I've not missed a NW mingle yet and I've met a lovely bunch of people including some of our London counterparts through some cultural exchanges, and yes they've become a great bunch of friends I can't wait to see again.
Get along to the next mingle on the 23rd Sep, I can guarantee you'll get a warm welcome from the NWMassive!
The only person I knew "in real life" here at first
was an ex-boyfriend. *waves hello*
But now, thanks to the mingles, I've met loads of the massive. And everyone's absolutely lovely. And I'm delighted to count a number of them amongst my actual proper friends now.
I love it here.
Unfortunately...
...I can't make it to the mingle. I will, of course, strive to make it to the next one. It will be great to meet the faces behind these strange names.
Speaking as a one time mingler (so far)
I cannot recommend them highly enough. Great music (& cake), but easily, most bestest of all, lovely, lovely people.
Jump in, you will love it.
The Word Massive - one of lifes little pleasures.
Marooned in Devon
Anyone else live down this way..? If there's enough of us to form a quorum, then a SW Mingle may be in order....??!!
