Innocents Abroad

We're all familiar with the sex, drugs & rock n' roll lifestyle and how many bands and artists queue up to snort, shag and riff their way through life, but what of the gentler sorts, the sheltered plants, the wallflowers of rock and pop.

Who are the innocent milksops of rock and what is the most extreme Walter-the-Softy anecdote?

was it an urban myth that when

Radiohead supported Oasis on one of the latters earlier tours that Thom et al would tidy up the dressing rooms after les freres Gallagher trashed them.

Teenage Fanclub

Allegedly redecorated their dressing room when they had some time on their hands, rather than trash it, but known to enjoy a wee tipple.

Sensitive souls not much help in a pub fight:
Nick Drake
Belle and Sebastian
Cowboy Junkies' singer Margo Timmins only poison is needlepoint
and Chapterhouse may have taken the odd drink/drug, but they were definitely all of the 'God help us if there's a war' sort.

It was 5 a.m. . .

in an office at the Sonar festival in Barcelona (a friend of mine was one of the organisers) when the door opened and a bald bloke I vaguely recognised stuck his head round and said sheepishly, "Sorry, can I just get something from that room over there? Won't be a sec." We duly gave him permission. He then disappeared into a store room, emerged with a rusty old bike, rummaged in one of the saddlebags, took out some bicycle clips and clasped them neatly around his jean bottoms. "I'll be off then," he said. "Nuh-night."

It was the one of Spain's best-known DJs, who'd just finished playing a chest-thumpingly loud techno set to a pulsating, pilled-up crowd of thousands in the main room.

Of course

Mary Hansen from Stereolab dies in a bicycle accident. Not excactly rock n roll

Sheds

In the very brilliant Kursaal flyers documentary, So You Want To Be A Rock'n'Roll Star, singer Paul Shuttleworth confesses, "I don't really go in for raving it up like the others. I'll go for a walk, look round some garden centres. I cut this out of the paper the other day... sheds."

Beat that.

Also, wasn't Nico another rock'n'roll cycling casualty?

I'm sure he got up to a lot of nonsense when he was young but...

Neil Young takes some beating with his obsession with train sets.
