"Influences"?
Posted by titmus on 26 January 2012 - 11:10pm.
I've always liked this song, and am a big fan of the mad genius that is Karl Wallinger, but this seems to be a melange of at least two well-known songs. One, I would think, is Wild Horses, but I can't put my finger on the other(s). Anyone?

Nice
I'm getting a little Fleetwood Mac and Albatross from the intro if that's any help.
The middle eight
is a bit like the one in Getting in Tune off Who's Next.
Agree completely
In fact I would say that the middle eight is virtually identical to Getting in Tune. Listen to both and you're bound to agree.
There's ...
... a little bit of "Hey Joe"ness about the intro - but's it's very Stonesy - the major to minor when the vocals start is, as you say, the same as "Wild Horses".
After..
45 seconds it sounds like Dylan,s You,re a Big Girl Now
Don't know, don't care*
Just delighted that someone else on here loves The Wallinger. Gives me an excuse to post another gem from the 'Bang' album. World Party have put out some wonderful songs over the years and Sunshine, Hollywood and this one, Is It Like Today, are among my favourites. Why isn't Karl Wallinger better recognised?
* Wasn't being flippant. Just excited to see a WP song posted.
I hear
