Shit, that takes me back!
Some great stuff there. I got into music in 1991 and religiously read the NME for about 6 years so it covers my glory years pretty well!
I remember reading that Echobelly interview (Sep 95) first time round. And can recaall when the Boo Radleys were the saviours of British pop music!
I sometimes wish I'd saved all of my copies of NME (& Melody Maker & Select & Vox), but I knew that sooner or later they'd all turn up on t'interweb!
I'm not quite ready to revisit Echobelly interviews yet…
… but I did find this somewhat amazing video on the same page
wow
that's ace - cheers.
Echobelly
First album stands up pretty well from the height of Britpop, miles better than most of the other second-stringers. And remember a pretty good gig in the NME tent at reading around the time of it's release.
I found that period and those bands
the New Wave of New Wave wasn't it? a real low, no wonder I went back to thrash metal and goth
NWONW...
...was rubbish - a bunch of shouty, tuneless oiks led by S*M*A*S*H from my (then) hometown of Welwyn Garden City (where they were previously known as Smash Hit The Blues).
Echobelly et al were the vanguard of Britpop. Another low for some, I know, but it chimed in perfectly with a very happy, upbeat time of my life, so I loved it.
Just thought I'd mention
I spent some time last night compiling an Early 90s Indie Disco playlist on iTunes thanks to this thread!
Echobelly.
Fond memories of Sonia Madan..
Wonder what she's up to now?
Thanks for....
that! I remember buying some of those! I can now show my 11-year old that I was cool once! She told me the other day that I 'was crap at everything' because I didn't know where her phone was!
