Indie Disco with DJ Pat Nevin!
Posted by ganglesprocket on 9 March 2010 - 5:22pm.
On an earlier thread (http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/a-penny-your-thoughts#comment-form) I posted a comment about 5live pundit Pat Nevin's rather wonderful taste in music.
Well any London based Word readers and 5Live listeners may be keen to hear that the great man is DJing at Kings Cross in a couple of weeks. Details are here;

Expect Joy Division, the Go-Betweens and a bit of Belle and Sebastian.
Sadly I can't be there, but I kind of wish I could...

I remember
Pat Nevin standing in for the regular DJ on the evening show on Liverpool's Radio City in the late 80s, when he was an Everton player. Good stuff from what I remember.
Funny old game, Saint....
I recall a feature on Nevin on the Saint and Greavsie Show in the 80s. The fleet-footed Scot was shown playing the Cocteau Twins' Ivo from the Treasure LP, a personal favourite at the time. The rogueish Greaves was heard to remark something along the lines of, 'Ere Saint, he was playing at the wrong speed wasn't he?' at the end of the piece.
Big Crispy Ambulance fan too. I remember Nevin mentioning the post-punk outfit in a Record Mirror interview.

First LP he bought...
was The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. He announced this when a guest on 'Off The Ball', a BBC Radio Scotland programme last Saturday (still available on listen again function). As the album came out about 1974 and Pat was born in '63, one has to wonder about the workings of the young Nevin mind back then in the east end of Glasgow. He also spoke briefly about his Deejaying activities.
He can be spotted...
He can be spotted in the video for the The Vindaloo Summer Specials' 'Rockin' With Rita'. The V.S.S. was an amalgam of Vindaloo record's various acts - Ted Chippington, The Nightingales and Fuzzbox.
