Long time reader, first-time correspondent. Loving your work.
In this month's issue, reader Andrew Robinson calls Rob Fitzpatrick's recent Paolo Nutini article "fawning and self-important.". Misses the gist of the piece completely. Rob's point was that Paolo has been misunderstood, mislabelled or overlooked by many music-lovers. A lot of the reviews of the new album concentrated on the fact that a pretty-boy pop sensation with a Dad who runs a chippy actually has a bit of musical nous, style and eclectic taste. Few really GOT Paolo the way Rob did. He's a simple chap who finds the joy in simple things and writes songs about them, throwing in influences as diverse as Cab Calloway, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart and The Jungle Book. Sunny Side Up is a truly life-affirming record and Rob's assertion that if you think you know Paolo Nutini, think again, is a good one.
It just would have been nice to see a review of the album on it's release in your fine publication...the lack of one suggests that many in the Word Office are included in those needing to be won over.
Aw the best,
Sandy Nelson
