In the year 2100

Cookieboy's picture

Quick but difficult question for the massive. Seeing the name Neil Armstrong on another thread made me think of it.

Who alive today will have their name recognised by the general population in the year 2100?

We all toss around words like "Legend" and "Great" but who really deserves the words? Whose fame will outlive them and their original fans?

My first choice is Stephen King, yes the bloke who wrote "Carrie." He may seem a dubious selection but the person he reminds me of most is Charles Dickens and I have a feeling the contemporaries of Dickens would be flabbergasted if they knew how highly he is thought of now.

Didnt JD Ballard say that the only person remembered from the 20th century would be Neil Armstrong, Cookieboy
My choice would be Elvis

The 'who alive today' bit might be a problem for Elvis...

...unless you know something we don't?

Any good chippys down your way?

Elvis is alive and well working in a Polish food shop round our way although his accent has changed to a thick East European baritone. Sorry I missed that bit about being alive so my next vote is for Frank Sinatra, surely he's still alive and kicking

Blimey, don't tell Diana Krall

She is in Observer Music Magazine today and clearly thinks he's still alive. can't wait for the east european baritone change of direction, or was that "North"?

We wont recognise his songs though

Mary Hopkin. Those were the days my friend.
Yusuf Islam but no-one will have a clue about Cat Stevens.

2100 is only 89 years away...

Look back to 1922 and see just how many names are still known today. There's more than you'd think remembering, of course, that it was just before the widespread introduction of recording technology.

There'll be a lot of musicians & actors who's work will live on for another 89 years.
