I'm So Excited!!!!!!
Posted by Mr Drayton on 7 April 2010 - 3:45pm.
As a gentleman in the foothills of middle age I thought the days of being excited about pop music were long gone.
When I say excited, I mean, unexpectedly, grinningly, on tenterhooks just before school holidays excited.
Recently I've found myself getting all a quiver. Firstly at the thought of the new album from former Czar frontman John Grant, The Queen Of Denmark, and secondly, at the prospect of LCD Soundsystem in Leeds later on in the month. I am genuinely cock a hoop about the prospect of both.
Am I alone in this? I hope I'm not.

I'm listening
to the remaster of Nick Cave &TBS 'Henry's Dream' and jumping round like a nutter as it sounds bloomin awesome.
Nick and the band might hate it but I think its one of his peaks
I didn't know
this was out - is it *very* different to the original?
Well it might just be
my doggie ears but there is definitely clearer spereration of the instruments enabling you to hear previously hidden sounds. Stil maintains that whirling chaos but more forcussed
Must add this is not the 5.1 mix as I haven't got the kit for that.
The reissues are only a tenner for a CD n DVD with 5.1 mix n relevant bsides and promo vids (and a rather dull short film) so its worth a punt
I am getting excited by
discovering lots of new artists I've never heard of via spotify and Owen Pallett new Rufus Wainwright and yes John Grant sounds great and If Jeff Lynne gets his act together and then theres new Weller and Crowded House so lots to be excited about I think
John Grant
It's the CD most played in the office so far this year.
And, I should mention, new subscribers to The Word this month will receive a free copy.
Frank's Doomed.
Looks like that's time up for Frank the Newsagent then, free John Grant album has tipped the scale.Almost subscribed last month but already the proud owner of the Midlake album.Think that kills two birds with one stone.
Mumford & Sons
The Cave - the last track I heard which made me stop whatever it was I was doing and just LISTEN.
'Little Lion Man' from the same album had a similar effect.
The joy of discovering new stuff - thats what a subscription to The Word has done for me (so much better than the Q subscription I, somewhat mistakenly took out a couple of years ago!)
These New Puritans
- only heard three tracks so far, but am intrigued enough to delve further.
Tis excellent
Can I also put in a word for the recently Mercury-nominated Sweet Billy Pilgrim?
Saw them live recently. Nice bunch of lads and a great album - that like TNP makes the effort to be original
cheers, Tim
will take a peek.
Ordered it yesterday
after seeing them with Field Music on Tuesday - sounded warmly interesting.
There's excitement to be had...
Just heard the new Chemical Brothers on Zane Lowe. 11 minutes+ long and ends up like Baba O'Riley. That was good.
Got happy when I saw the new Jazz Stage line-up for Glasto today.
The new Jonsi album
The new Jonsi album is wonderful.
Plus I've been alerted to the fact that the first two Pavlov's Dog's albums have been remastered... which I may be forced to buy. Again.
Quit that salivating, NJ!
Another shout for Jonsi
first couple of plays have impressed me.
If you like that, try this from The Dirty Projectors album 'Bitte Orca'
http://open.spotify.com/track/1rsXdMvbZzwBVbXFvVA8sm
The rest of the album is fantastic.
Also looking forward to the John Grant album, and [as I may have already mentioned] seeing him with Midlake later in the year!
After a quiet gig winter
In the next month off to see Bad Company, Gil Scott Heron, LCD Soundsystem, Randy Newman, Chemical Brothers
V excited!
