I'm playing Earls Court tomorrow

John Medd's picture

Seriously, I'm playing Earls Court tomorrow. I only mention it because it appears they're tearing it down after the 2012 Olympics.

Why would you raze an Art Deco building like that? Maybe if we get enough 'up' arrows we can change their minds? Or shall we just go to the pub instead?

Since the 02 has started holding gigs

no bands want to play that big barn. Most of the trade fair things seem to be at Olympia these days. And its a bit of an arse to get to.

Shame

as I am going Friday with my son (see post below) for a father son beer bonding.

Better days..

I remember reading once many years ago, maybe a Bowie interview, that they didn't sus until the early 80's why the acoustics were so poor there because of the steel bits contained in the seating, so the sound used to bounce off everything and fly around. It's a great shame, but it does seem a bit of a faded glory. And Hammersmith & Fulham Council don't hang about when it comes to flattening things and rebuilding, no matter what.

I've only been to one gig there, Springsteen about 10 years ago

and the sound was awful then. I have worked on other events there though and it is a real trial. Poor access and parking and an ancient structure. I would imagine that it just doesn't work with modern touring shows and the huge amounts of sound, lighting and video that make up a modern concert.
