I'll be off then
Posted by katyg on 19 July 2011 - 9:12am.
Sporadic and inconsequential though my posts here are, I feel egotistically compelled to tell you all that this evening I'm off into London with my beloved bicycle, and tomorrow morning I'm going to start riding it to Paris. It's going to take four days, and an awful lot of eccles cakes. I'll be hoping to see Mark Cavendish arrive on Sunday, in a green jersey. If you want to read increasingly desperate reports of our travels please come and follow us on twitter, @katylizL2P.
Here is Marianne Faithfull. All that Lucy Jordan ever needed was a nice road bike.

Have fun!
I am a keen pedaller too lacking in maintenance knowledge to attempt anything that ambitious just yet, but I am definately very jealous...
Phew!
I read the thread title and for one horrible moment thought we had a flounce on our hands!
I could no more cycle to Paris than I could fly to the moon so I am impressed and humbled by your endeavours in equal measure. Good luck, although I'm sure you won't need it.
Oh, and if you happen to be doing this for charidee or somesuch, is there a justgiving page or something we should be aware of?
Have a lovely time
I'm more than a little jealous.
Happy peddling
Rather you than me though.
Good luck. Can we sponsor you?
What's....
all this "we" (c.Spike Milligan)
Bon Voyage
from a fellow sporadic and inconsequential poster!
Me as well...
Can we form a 'sporadic and inconsequential posters' clique?
S & I Posters Clique
Count me in! Or out?
Have fun
and good luck.
Thank you
for your kind comments! I've a feeling I'm going to need to call on them in moments dank and grim.
I am riding for Action Medical Research who work to improve healthcare for babies and children. And as a couple of you have asked (thank you), my sponsorship page can be found here:

Good on you, and good luck
I won't claim to be jealous as that suggests I'd want to do this, and frankly the odd bit of running is quite enough for me. Bon voyage!
Here's a song for you
Godspeed! (Jenny Lewis)
I'm determined to do this one year; on the other hand, maybe you'll do Dunwich with me next year. And Carl too??
Mwah mwah!
Sponsored you all my life savings
*waits for impressed looks - not a sausage*
Steady as she goes, don't drink the water, they drive on the other side of the road and no talking to any strange men. Well no more than usual
Ooh! Cool!
Paris for the end of Le Tour will be great.
Happy travels my dear
Good luck, bon voyage xxxxx
happy trails
Hope the weather improves for you.
Good luck!
Well, I'm back.
That was the finest four days I have ever spent. It was truly liberating to wake up each day and know that all we had to do, all day, was ride a bike. The first day, 90 miles from the O2 to our hotel just outside Calais, was hard, but we genuinely loved every minute, even the hills. My friend and cycling buddy Liz is brilliant company. Our technique for the hills (of which there are many in Northern France, don't be fooled) was to silently bide our time and then emit the most innovative curse we could. Trust me, by the time we had clocked up our 300 miles they were truly awful. It would have been very embarrassing if any of the groups of wholesome skinny men had overheard us. Luckily they swept efficiently by, occasionally with an encouraging (?) "Hop On Love".
So, in our haphazard way we made it to Paris. There were 600 of us, and with a police escort to stop the traffic, we swept over the cobbled streets and looped around the Arc de Triomphe. Our families greeted us at the Eiffel Tower with "Well Done Mum" banners. Aces.
On Sunday Le Tour arrived, and made us look like a bunch of bumbling nitwits. Here is Mark Cavendish. In his green jersey, just as I requested. It really brings out his eyes. There were a few Brits there, a few flags, and quite a few shouts for the Cav as he swept by. Now that I found emotional.
Thank you all for indulging me, supporting me, and especially for sponsoring me. It means a lot, and having chatted with folks from the charity about their work, I'm really proud to have raised money for them.
I want to sponsor you
but I can't get the site to work :-(
there are many ways....
we can sort it I'm sure :)
Well done
And that's a great pic. Whenever I get passed by a lycra-clad roadie going uphill, I always shout 'have you got a tow rope?'
Congrats
"Hop on Love" is known as subtle flirting round our way
