If you're at all interested - the new Radio 2 weekend schedule is announced

Five-Centres's picture

It looks like it's goodbye to all those laboured comedy shows, and sadly it does involve Alan Carr and more Elaine Paige, but there's a glimmmer of hope with Johnnie Walker and a new sounds of the Seventies.

Radio 2 Announces New Weekend Schedule.

More TV names shoved on the wireless

Can anyone come up with any examples actual radio talent discovered by Radio Two?

Stuart Maconie

Though I suppose he was “discovered” on Radio 1. Or Radio 6. He’s sort of the Paul Madeley of Radio 2, comfortable and excellent in any slot. Don’t know why they persist in using all these crappy TV presenters. Dermot O Bloody Leary is just awful.

Why no Baker and Ball?

Easily the best thing on Radio 2 in years, and it lasts a month?

On the positive side

Always enjoyed Pick of the Pops more on a Saturday afternoon as it was 10 or so years ago. Dunno why.

Not the same with Dale

Mr. Winton goes through the old chart, skips all the records which have stood the test of time and plays the rest. I suppose the old journeymen need the royalties from somewhere. Shows from the Stars on 45 era are especially grim though.

Thank God the *comedy* hour has gone

Although it's a shame Jonnie Walker's show has been moved forward. In its current format it always eased me nicely into Sunday evening. I doubt Paul O'Grady will do the same.

You clearly don't get a look in

unless you're a camp tv presenter.

Alan Carr on R2 - Good news

Hopefully a regular slot on Radio 2 will mean that Alan Carr (whose music knowledge seems to stretch to what was in the top 20 during a 3 year period in the mid 80's) is less likely to stand in on 6Music.

i will never listen

to any one of those shows.

Mindless twaddle all.

I only listen to R4.

Agree...

Saturday is a disaster, Sunday not really any better. The only one I might listen to is Johnnie's 70s thing. Dermot, Elaine, Alan, Gambo, Dale, O'Grady... all people I find very annoying and really not proper radio presenters, except Gambaccini. Radio 4 here I come, or Stuart Maconie on 6.

Except for Bob Harris....

Surely Radio 2's unsung jewel in the weekend crown? Good to see his slot untouched. Consistently excellent with a varied and clever choice plus fascinating live sessions.

Nah. Don't care.

Still R4 for me every time.

Has anyone ever heard this R2 guy? Dear god...

Just leave

Brian Matthews where he is. Or else.
