Ideal Summer Album

wayfarer's picture

Reading the Sunniest Band thread got me thinking about albums that epitomise summer. For me, it's XTC's Skylarking. Has there ever been a more summery album. .
A best of War compilation comes a close second.

"Seventh Tree" by Goldfrapp

Evokes a sunny morning frolicking in a dewy meadow with Alison Goldfrapp.
(*Enters daydream in the style of Homer Simpson.*)

Seventh tree - Goldfrapp

Probably the most summery album I have ever heard. I love it to bits. I have a long drive today, I must dig it out for the journey.

Mmmmmmmmm, Goldfrapp.

Sunny jolly hols

More albums which don't break the summery mood. The title tracks are all good representative songs:
"Keep Your Silver Shined" - Devon Sproule. Lounging in a hammock in a Virgina apple orchard with a good book.
"Tanto Tempo" - Bebel Gilberto. Sipping something cheerful on a secret Brazilian beach.
"Anymore for Anymore" - Ronnie Lane. Strumming a guitar on the grass by a Romany caravan while chewing a piece of straw.

Duckworth Lewis Method

with the added plus of annoying the Mrs with 'Jiggery Pokery' (she can't abide that song, which means I play it quite a lot)

"Sand in the sandwiches, wasps in the tea"

Skylarking was the first thing that came to my mind after reading the thread title. Jollification by Lightning Seeds would be another one.

good call on the Lightning Seeds...

as I sat outside yesterday, reading the paper and sipping on a nice, cold beer, I had Jollification playing.

Isn't 'Perfect' the most, er, perfect, indication of what an album is about to deliver?

Not available to me on youtube, but it's here http://www.lightningseeds.net/perfect.html
