Anyone out there heard the music of British jazz singer Ian Shaw?? Any opinions from you lot???

Many years ago

I went on a 'Rock School' weekend. On the first evening we had some vocal training from Ian Shaw and it was quite remarkable. He had 30 young men, more interested in playing guitars far too loudly, singing en masse in beautiful 4 part harmonies. It remains one of my best musical moments.

I haven't heard him since. Is he any good?

I'm sure

by now you must have visited his website. I'm not a techie so I can't post it here but it's there on Google. Discography. Contact details...the lot. ( Mind you, there's an aeroplane modeller by the same name so be careful just in case you end up ordering several boxes of 1/32 scale Supermarine Spitfire assembly sets ).

Drawn to all things

I've got the album of Joni covers and it's terrific, especially Night in the City and Edith and the Kingpin. It slaughters the official covers album. He sings beautifully and the arrangements and solos are of a consistently high quality, particularly from Janette Mason and Tim Lapthorn on piano and a whippersnapper called David Preston on guitar.

Some jazz talk on the wordblog. Now we're talking.
