I've just discovered a wonderful blog

I'm not going to post a link to it, just to be sure of not incurring Word's displeasure; but it's called The B Side - the domain of one Red Kelly. It discusses, at great length and with what appears to be very well informed research, those forgotten B sides - mostly in the genre of Southern Soul. If you enjoy the work of James Carr, Clarence Carter, Dan Penn, Spooner Oldham, Chips Moman, Arthur Conley, Sam Cooke, Lee Dorsey, Aretha Franklin, King Curtis, Wilson Pickett, Billy Preston, Joe Simon, Candi Staton or people like them, you're in for a treat. It does country, it does soul, and it's done with a whole lotta love.

Posting links

You mean this blog?

We've got no problems with people posting links to blogs they like - in fact, we absolutely encourage it.

What we don't like is people using Word to publicise their own blogs, websites, mixes. myspace pages etc, because this site would pretty quickly become a forum for self-promotion and spam.

But even then there are exceptions. If someone else starts a thread about the Rolling Stones, and you happen to be have something online somewhere that's relevant, then link to it from the comments. Relevance is the key.

Mick Wall

Whilst we're on the subject of good blogs, can I recommend Mick Wall's daily blog at:

It's always an entertaining read, here's a brief snippet from today!

"Back to reality now though and packing to leave for the tiny cottage on the hill up the road from where where I live. ABSOLUTELY F****** MUST get on with finishing the Zep book"

That's the one!

Thanks, Fraser. I was never sure of the moral middle ground between spreading the word, if you'll pardon the pun, and your request in the FAQs: "we'd prefer it if you didn't link directly to copyrighted music files hosted by other websites." Thanks for clearing it up.

FAQ clarification

What we ask is that you don't link directly to files you suspect may be posted illegally. We're not going to stop you linking to other websites that might contain links to those files, though - mp3 blogs etc.
