I wish I'd thought of this

Brilliant.

As an aside, how do Bono and The Edge manage to be present at every "do" on the face of the Earth?

I'd suspect

it's 'cos they have the Spiderman gig going on at the moment, innit?

Swinging across the stage halfway through...

....is a live readout showing the budget over-run on Spiderman.

Yeah, it's fantahstic, but -

exactly why do you wish you'd thought of it?

This is the Broadway theatre's advert

It's their opportunity to talk to the people who have thought about going to shows and haven't. And this seizes that opportunity brilliantly.

That's what I envy about it. When you watch it it seems so obvious.

That was FABulous!

Er, I mean that was awesome. Like Mel Brooks at his very best.

Who wrote it?

The mighty Adam Schlesinger (with David Javerbaum) of Fountains of Wayne, no less.

If you feel like someone that this world excludes,
it's no longer only for dudes who like dudes.
Attention every breeder, your invited to the theatre.
It's not just for gays anymore.

Stacks up with the best FoW material and I hope they play it next month.

REally?

That's brilliant. They can do no wrong.

0
David Hepworth | 10 October 2011 - 3:24pm

Oh yeah,

Schlesinger's great. And he's got the approbation of his peers; Tonys, Ocscars, Emmys, Grammys (or at least nominations).

Here's an article about that clip.

Gosh!!!

As a big fan of "The Founties" and "That Thing You Do" (up for Best Pop Movie Of All Time award), I'm delighted that he wrote this.

So, David...

The Word equivalent would be?

Perhaps a competition is in order?

I will buy dinner....

.....for anyone who can come up with something half as good as that.

Have given it a go!

Can’t compare to the glory of the original but here goes....

You Don’t Have To Be A Nerd To Read The Word

Have you heard of Word, a fantastic magazine?
No it’s not Jehovahs Witness
And it will not bore you witless,
It’s entertainment for any lively mind
Aimed at every single member of mankind.
You don’t have to be a nerd to read the Word!

If Prog to you is what is showing on TV,
And Folk are kindly people you’ve invited round for tea
And Trip-hop “happened” for you when you fell over the cat,
As long as you like music, the Word is where it’s at!
You don’t have to be a nerd to read the Word!

You don’t have to be obsessive
(Though of course that helps a lot)
Or male and middle aged
With a waistline gone to pot,
If you don’t own all Pink Floyd’s oeuvre
It matters not a jot,
You don’t have to be a nerd to read the Word!

You’ll find a lot of words to make you think and make you grin
On musicmaking, movies, modern life, the state we’re in,
With curios, reviews – it’s a source of constant joy
From very clever writers they currently employ.

Does your fiancée dig Beyonce,
Or your Nanna love Rihanna?
Buy them both a copy of the Word!
By your enterprising, you’ll expand their sound horizon
And they can call themselves a true ‘Word Bird.’

So go and buy the issue now,
I’m sure that you will see
It’s not just for us music nerds,
I know you will agree.
There’s a blog, podcasts and mingles
And not least a free CD!
You don’t have to be a nerd to read the Word.

I won't say this is as good..

..but here's David Hyde Pierce (Niles Crane) in character, rocking the string quartet,
(Song starts about 4 minutes in..)
