I need travel advice
Posted by matthew on 2 December 2010 - 2:51pm.
I have two tickets to see Arcade Fire at the O2 arena this evening. I'm meant to be driving from south Suffolk and joining the M11 at Stansted. This is what I need to know:
1: Can anyone report on the A120, the M11 and conditions around the O2?
2: How bad will I feel if I don't go?
Your advice please.

I can only answer number 2
Very bad. I saw them last night and they managed to inject a little bit of soul into the cavernous North Greenwich Arena. Coming out on a high after Wake Up into a snowstorm was a lovely touch. Don't know how Win, Regine and the crew managed that.
I found it interesting that the Suburbs stuff didn't really connect for me last night as much as the visceral charms of Tunnels, Power Out and Rebellion (Lies).
If Devendra's supporting tonight, I'd give it a miss and nip in later - he was barely audible last night.
Good luck on getting there tonight.
I live near the Dome
Conditions are ok there - snowy, but the roads have generally been cleared. No idea about the route down though.
A word of warning - I just saw on Twitter that both Arcade Fire and Vampire Weekend have cancelled gigs tonight. This is unconfirmed ( the person tweeting wanted people to come see them instead...) but I would double check that it's worth attempting the trip if I were you.
the roads are ok this side of the river
but the trains and overland are patchy. good luck
Go!
It was a storming gig last night.
I did blog. (And held my Flip aloft at the right moments)

I feel your pain
I was going to see Spizzenergi at the Dublin Castle tonight. I even bought tickets in advance to stop me changing my mind, but I live next to Gatwick airport, where there are still no trains.
Latest news from the railway is that last train out is 9pm, and only goes as far south as Croydon, but that is academic since I couldn't get into town anyway.
I was supposed to meet up with our daughter who is at Uni in London and her friend to give her a bit of a musical education (her only previous gig being S Club 7 many years ago)
The only consolation, and it is a small one, is not having to wait until tomorrow to watch the last episode of Colditz on the Yesterday channel.
Mind you. My 3 tickets for Spizzenrgi probably cost less than one ticket for the O2 so it could have been worse.
Decision made
As much as it pains me to say it, I'm staying at home. I really don't want to risk the motorway at midnight when it's - 4. Anyone who wants.a pair of tickets can have them!
