Good bands Gone..... who would you like to see in the 2012 ?
Can I be the first to post that
The Smiths don't count. They're not coming back. Just leave it will you.
Stone Me
Might you have said the same about the Stone Roses a year ago?
I miss Supergrass too. They were very underrated & ace.
In It For The Money is a frickin' corker of an album.
Well Charlie Coombes and the
Well Charlie Coombes and the new breed are having a good go at keeping the vibe going.
well everyone else is having
well everyone else is having a go... ?
Pink Fairies..Planet Gong ?
Reverse psychology you see...
The Smiths won't reform, will they. Will they?
It'd be
the typical travesty, though, wouldn't it?
Haven't they made enough from the boxed set?
The Blue Nile
The recent biography makes it sound extremely unlikely but we can live in hope.
A few...
Guided By Voices - have been teasing us about European dates, but at least they're releasing new material.
Talking Heads - unlikely, I know, but there's always hope.
The La's - we may as well keep asking.
The Wrens - magnificent album from these a few years ago, still awaiting the follow-up. Here's a taste...
The Love Trousers
Touring that highly anticipated, yet much delayed debut album...
Failing that, it's already happening for me - Buzzcocks, Brixton Academy 26 May. Includes Devoto, Shelley, Diggle, Maher and Garvey.
Three I'd love, but won't happen - Husker Du, Felt and Galaxie 500.
No Felt
But I think Lawrence has new stuff out in 2012 along with his very own Rockumentary which I haven't seen yet but is supposed to be excellent .
Lawrence
Yip, new and possibly last Go Kart Mozart album "On The Hot Dog Streets" is due in 2012. I saw the film "Lawrence Of Belgravia" this year, and it is excellent. A little distressing in places but his self belief is quite something.
And there's an excellent Felt article in the new issue of Uncut, the one with Creedence on the cover.
Once again the answer is
.. Nick Lowe... and Dave Edmunds to reform Rockpile.
The answer is of course
David Bowie
and XTC
and The Rolling Stones with the other Mick
the latter a possibility of Keef gets his way
I was going to make a NY resolution
Not to see any more "heritage acts". No reformed bands, no Stone Roses or whoever. Just new bands, or bands who are a going concern.
I'm oddly tempted by The Beach Boys though..although it could be hideous.
Was planning to see Happy Mondays next month
But guess what....they cancelled !
Grandaddy..
with Jason Lytle..obviously!
Don,t want to be greedy
but can we have Mansun as well
You're..
...just being silly now
I would love to see
Kingmaker and Thousand Yard Stare tread the boards once more.
I have a feeling that I am alone with that thought.
Ahh Kingmaker
you're not alone there Mr Shoes I'd love to see Kingmaker again. Strangely underated even at the time. If they'd just smartened their act up and lost the dreadlocks they'd have been proto-britpop.
Their debut album was ace
anything I heard after that was pretty poor.
They were a smart band,
all quiffs, shirts and jackets. Can't remember a dreadlock between them. The drummer was a bit of a scruff though. Did he once have a dread toward the back of his receding hairline?
And it is there first album only I would be interested in too. A complete run through of Eat Yourself Whole would be fabbo.
I've been and had a look....
... and you are indeed correct. The singular ratty dread like tail has coloured my entire memory of them. Both times I saw them though they were well scruffy though! All ripped jeans and t-Shirts. I seem to remember them smartening up later on.
My own memory
of that time is a haze of snakebite and black. Between us I think we are just about there!
You KNOW you're not alone
Kingmaker doing Eat Yourself Whole would be a-blimmin-mazing. I'd be quite happy if they threw a few in from the second album too - I really liked Armchair Anarchist and (whisper)I quite liked 10 Years Asleep too.
As for Thousand Yard Stare, the albums were alsways slightly dull but I loved them live, especially when they did Spindrift. They'd have to come back with the proper singer, not the dodgy replacement.
While I'm here, I'll put in a request for Power of Dreams who I used to think were great.
I want Gene to reform! Come
I want Gene to reform! Come on Rossiter & co, you know you want to!
If I am being greedy - the below would also be nice;
The Jam
Dubstar
The Housemartins
Dexy's Midnight Runners
I can but dream
Agreed
I've missed the Housemartins since 1987. Wish they would come back but the interview they did in another mag a few years ago seemed to put the nail in that coffin.
Dubstar
have reformed.
Jim'll Fix it for you....Dexys
are currently working on a new LP. You can follow progress on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/DexysOfficial
Well, as I am on a roll with
Well, as I am on a roll with both Dubstar (woo) & Dexy's (hoo) I may as well add a few more! I'll have The Smiths, The Kinks & LCD Soundsystem please
Kevin Rowland
A couple of weeks ago he stole my seat on the train to Brighton. He pushed in front of me when clearly I was the one standing ion front of the door when it opened. Bounder! Luckily I managed to sit on the seat opposite and give him the evil eye for a while. I am sure he feels terrible about it now. He was dressed very well. It must have taken a lot of effort for him to look that casual. He had a leather briefcase - very stylish. The contents (couldn't resist taking a peek) were three hats. These hats were in addition to the beret that he was wearing.
4 hats?
Surely 2 hats would have been more appropriate.
Gene
Great shout. Fine, fine band
I am hoping that maybe Supergrass
Worked out that it might be better to 'split' and then 'come back' rather than keep going. Their last album is their best, I think.
I think we will see them again.
Would like to think we will see Grandaddy too.
And Mansun would be great too.
The Replacements
And I'd like to see XTC release something again, but that doesn't look likely.
I'd also like to see Fivethirty again.
That completes
my dream line up:
Kingmaker
Thousand Yard Stare
FiveThirty
5:30
5:30 are the stuff of legends. I seem to recall Bob Stanley (St Etienne hitmaker and Journalist) saying he wanted to write a book about them. Apparently they bought the door from Alesteir Crowley's house and used to carry it around with them on tour...tried to take it on 'Planes etc.
Never heard any of their music and I don't think I saw them live although I might have done..
I definitely saw Thousand Yard Stare live in the early 90s..it was hard not to as they were everywhere. Their singer was very tall. That is all I remember.
I've got some 5:30 stuff on vinyl
The song 'Supernova' is very good but nothing remarkable. However, I did see the Nubiles a couple of times, the band that Tara Milton went on to put together. They did some pretty good tunes - 'Layabout' and 'A Sap's Guide To Rock and Roll' are worth checking out
My band used to use the same rehearsal room / cowshed
as The Nubiles. Week in, week out we'd lug our amps in as they lugged theirs out. Never said a word to each other. Bands are weird like that. Not much of a anecdote, I know - the name just took me back to my misspent youth.
The Fatima Mansions
Screaming Blue Messiahs
XTC
Talking Heads
PIL with Jah Wobble and Keith Levene
Audioweb
Dead Kennedys
Agree with above - The Replacements
The Jam (although this seems even more unlikely as I heard Rick has had a falling out with Bruce who has now left their very own tribute band "From The Jam"...!
3 Mustaphas 3
for me please
I'd like Ride to tour with
The Sundays and Galaxie 500.
That's all.
If you could
get Slowdive to round off the bill, I'm there!
Didn't Ride actually "reform" for some C4 documentary or something not too long ago? Reckon there's still a great album to be had from them...
Slade for me and Dexys who I
Slade for me and Dexys who I hear have recorded a new album and will perform live in 2012
The Dukes of Stratosphear
... it's got to be done.
PLEASE>
The Jam &
The Jam & most of all, SLADE.
The Faces
The Faces - with Rod Stewart (although Bass duties will probably have to remain with Glen Matlock (or A N Other))
Other than that, these would be interesting:
- Stiff Litle Fingers (with Henry Cluney and Brian Faloon or Dolphin Taylor)
- Undertones (with Feargal Sharkey)
- Slade
- Jam
Basically, its my chance to see my favourite bands that I was too young to see first time round
I miss Supergrass too
- the second best* band to be named after a Comic Strip film.
(*after Bad News)
Ultravox!
with John Foxx
Amen brother
I want to be a machine too.
Very underrated.
Richard & Linda Thompson
together again. Sigh.
