I love Danny Baker ...

dai's picture

... but his new 5 Live Sunday show History Repeating is really very poor indeed. Low marks from me.

Anybody else heard it?

Yarp

The first one found its way on to my podcast list thanks to his Saturday show and I listened to it to the end, just about. Then I started the second one yesterday and lasted about ten muniutes. Never again. It is poor and Danny knows it.

I was going to write almost exactly the same thing...

... except I would have spelled "minutes" correctly (insert smiley face).

Yeah

His heart's not in it at all.

I beg to differ

It's not a classic but perfectly good 'people talking nonsense' for a Sunday morning IMHO.

^ I second that emotion^

I say hats off to whoever managed to come up with yet another format for a topical quiz. Surely there can't be any left now?

Fair enough

I shall give it another try

The first one

I struggled with. The next 2 have been ok though. Anything with Baylen Leonard on it is always worth a listen in my book.

Ah

I heard the first one & thought it was utterly dreadful, so bad that I felt embarrassed. I didn't bother. Has he got Baylen in now. He certainly wasn't there for the first.

It downloads automatically, so may try the next epi & see.

Maybe I have no taste

but I have to say that I enjoy it. "Bunkum from flakes" as Danny might say and not intellectually challenging but it keeps me happy on the journey to work.

I also love Baker man...

...but wasn't he as annoying as fuck on Desert Island Discs? I think it was just a blip, mind.

I'm not so sure...

The thing with DB is, when he has someone to counter him (e.g. Danny Kelly or Amy Lamé), then he stops short of being insufferable but, as soon as he's indulged (as in DID or that shockingly poor Sky Arts interview), then you quickly tire of him.

I have only listened to one

I have only listened to one and quite liked it. He will do most things for a paying gig though.

Very annoying,

particularly the way he kept going on about not worrying about having no money.

We don't all have mates we can borrow 30 grand from at the drop of a hat, which is probably why the rest of us do have to worry about such things.

Perfectly acceptable background listening

I was carrying out kitchen fatigues and it certainly helped to pass the time. Possibly not the material for a commute type podcast.

Thoroughly enjoyed

both the shows I've heard. It's still finding its feet but it's just a giggle on a Sunday morning. Glad it's a podcast too so I can add it to my weekly playlist.

Listened to one coming home tonight

Enjoyed it.

When Jonathan Ross was "on gardening leave"

from Radio 2 a couple of years back Danny stood in with Zoe Ball for a few weeks. I thought they made a great double act and had hopes of more in the future.

Graham bloody Norton!!?

Uninstall Norton

Graham Norton on Saturday morning - oh dear. When interviewing someone he is second to none but without someone to bounce off I think he really struggles. And his music choice is truly terrible. OOAA

I just wish Baker and BBC London would come together...

... and sort out a podcast featuring his best bits on his BBC London show like they do with Robert Elms. I know the Candyman got stitched up when he tried setting up his own independent podcast for sale on Itunes a few years back, but his best stuff on BBC London is untouchable. Am dying to hear his interview with Roy Wood from his Thursday show that I missed , but find finding the time to listen to the show at home on BBC IPlayer within the next 5 days a bit tricky

If you have an ipod....

....or suchlike, download this episode quickly via the radio downloader.

www.nerdoftheherd.com

I'm downloading it now after you kindly informed me that Roy Wood was on the Danny Baker show. Nice, cheers for that :o)

Why thank you too Sir!

I'd heard there was certain software out there that allowed you to listen to Iplayer radio shows as an MP3, but was too much of a lazy Luddite to investigate any further. Thank you so very much for this handy link
