I Keep Mine Hidden
In a bout of bored channel-hopping, I caught the second half of Springwatch on BBC2 tonight (Tuesday 9th). By mistake. Honest. Cough.
Anyway, did anyone else see this and notice Chris Packham concealing Smiths song titles deep within his links about wasp nests and kingfishers?
Initially, I'm not sure whether I was more taken aback by his impressively deadpan delivery, or the notion of the former cycling be-jacketed Sir Billiam-alike being so familiar with the works of the nation's favourite moanster.
Once I'd got over the shock, I spotted "Oscillate Wildly", "This Charming Man" and "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me", and that was only in the last 15 minutes or so.
The programme's available on iplayer now, I think - can anyone spot any more?

Yup!

He's been doing this all season
I saw the first half (and am not ahamed to say that I enjoy Springwatch, even if I don't make an appointment to view it). The programme started with some livecam footage of a poorly swallow which had been reported on in the previous show; Packham noted that it was Still Ill.
Last night he also crowbarred in....
... Sweet and Tender Hooligan. While describing a stoat with a dead rabbit in its mouth. Good going there Mr Packham. Surely he's a facetime, Word To The Wise candidate now?
Fantastic!
Haven't been watching the programme, but this should surely become a YouTube hit.
Urban legends
There was one about Mr Packham flying around when I was a young 'un. Said myth was that he had a condition that meant he felt pain when he had his hair cut.
He's also been trying to...
... get in solo Morrisey songs but not with as much success - e.g. last night's effort - Hold On To Your Hens.
More!
And at it again LAST night (Wednesday 10): the great man declared that one species of bird (a goldfinch, I think) appeared to have been "knocking on the cemetery gates" but had made a full recovery by the morning. He proudly sported a Jesus And Mary Chain t-shirt throughout. We must get him in the magazine at the earliest opportunity.
Definitely
A good egg for the following reasons:
1. To have the courage to do the Smiths-shoehorn-shuffle when you have just got a big gig.
2. Passionate about his subject - made it inclusive where Bill Oddie gave the impression of reluctantly letting the viewer in on his hobby.
3. Bright. The production team's 'thing' at the end of the series was to demonstrate his knowledge and nerdiness.
4. Gives 'BBC-chiefs' a headache cos Bill will be available by Autumnwatch. How can they drop the man-in-form?
Oh yes, an interview
with Mr Packham is surely a must now. And just to top all the above attributes he has, the guy is only a couple years short of the big 50! I would have pegged him 10 years younger!
