I like Jools' Hootenanny but...

Nicodemus's picture

... isn't Lenny Henry the most un-funny of funny men?

Is he

morphing into Barry White!!!

I liked him on Tiswas...

trouble is, that was oh so long ago

Still, at least Lenny Henry makes me smile, which leads me on to Roland Rivron, who does not. Would someone tell me what his purpose is, as he certainly isn't a comic.

He certainly appeared to be

the most drunk of drunk men last night.

Twas not always thus

Am I the only one with fond memories of Lenny's sitcom Chef? There were some genuine laughs in there, and the episode when he was in an international cooking competition in France was beautifully written and structured. And the appearance of his irrascible dad was brilliant - although that was mostly down to Oliver Samuels.

Lenny may not be very funny any more; but he was a pretty good stand-up when I saw him in the late 80s. He seems like a good bloke. I'm happy to leave off him and save my scorn for more deserving recipients.

Katanga. my friends

now that were funny

Was there anything on the Hootenany worth getting the i-player out for? I just couldn't watch it live for fear of the Ting Tings and the Boogie Woogie Man

Hootenany was a shocker

With the exception of The Hold-Steady, despite the fact that they looked like they'd been hijacked from the local Round Table New Years Eve Ball.....

Worst Hootenany I can remember

The Hold Steady were the only redeeming feature. though I enjoyed watching Martha and the Vandellas.
Al Murray wasn't very funny either was he?
As for Lenny Henry, personally I like the guy, but I don't think he will ever live down the "Extras" clip....

I didn't get to watch it...

...on Hogmanay as I was working nightshift.

I finished watching it an hour ago though and thourghly enjoyed it!

I've no interest at all in The Ting Tings, Duffy, Adele, Sparro et al but all in all it was a good show. There was no Leona, Rhianna or Take That...and this was a prime time tv music/entertainment show.

Dave Edmunds doing Costellos "Girls Talk" with a horn section...feckin' magic!!

My son plays saxophone and even he was amazed at the *blow* power of the Scandinavian blokes playing harmonica.

Was Duffy singing Rockferry in Welsh?...I couldn't make out a word.

If you get your invite in time for next years show Retropath2, and for some reason you can't make it, send it to me.

Do you think Lenny Henry

has comedian as his occupation on his passport? Mind you his voice was better than Duffy's, she was shocking! Zero charisma and what was all that pulling the loo chain hand movement about?
Was that dancing?

Mind you watching Al Murray and Dara O'Braian "getting down" made me feel like John Travolta!

A pedant is baffled

You often hear references to what people cite as their occupation on their passports and I’ve never understood why, as there’s no reference to the bearer’s occupation on a UK passport and never has been as far back as I can remember, though you do state your occupation on wedding certificates and the parents’ occupations on children’s birth certificates.
It always really bugs me, though I realise this is pedantic and irrational and I don’t mean it as a criticiam of you point, RM.
