I *heart* Hatsune Miku
Posted by Beany on 15 January 2009 - 9:35pm.

Sexier than Kate Bush, smaller than Bjork and more colourful than The Gorillaz. I've been listening to the voice of Hatsune performing the music of Tiny Symphony - one of my favourite Japanese musicians - for some time now. Thanks to the magic of YouTube I am now discovering her take on western pop songs.
I refer to her as a person. In reality she is a software programme. Hatsune Miku (初音ミク) is the first instalment in the Vocaloid2 Character Vocal Series released on August 31, 2007.

Hear what she (ok, it) does with I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).
Like it or loathe it; it's the future...

The future looks bleak
Truly horrible. Is Peter Frampton involved in this?
Yeah....
the Frampsmeister must be using his 'wha wha wha' thingy...
Gargled
through a Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
Sorry, you are thinking of Kagamine Len, the male version. Version 3, named Megurine Luka, is released in 2 weeks. Well, it's better than waiting for the next installment of Super Mario:Blood Zombies Of Doom computer game. Just.
If that's the future
then I want no part of it.
If Jimmie Krankie had a Vocoder...
And what the hell is going on at 1:35?
1:35
She's eating Action Man's trousers. It's the future.
Sounded more human
Than Cher.
Please
Make it stop. What on earth do the Japanese make of havering?
They wrap it in seaweed and wolf it down raw
Ayethangyew.
Not ready yet
It's fun that they are working on it, but I don't think Vocaloid is quite meant to be used for lead vocals yet. Maybe useful for adding to layers of backing vocals but not lead vocals. Also you could use it to mock up a song to play to a singer so that they can get a rough idea of what it is you want before you record them.
The examples here are slightly better. Only slightly though.
It might be interesting to see how someone uses it creatively to do something other than try to be a singer.
Looks like a lot of fun
For non-musicians like me. The Proclaimers track was an example of the Japanese going over the top but still be funny unusual (as opposed to funny ha ha).
Until I researched this area of software programming I did not realise how far it had gone. Then I came across this. If I was a much younger nerd this would be on my wish list.
Fab Four Virtual Instrument
FAB FOUR is a virtual instrument inspired by the sounds of the Beatles, using the same kind of period instruments and authentic rare EMI recording equipment the Beatles used to create their music.
FAB FOUR sound engineer KEN SCOTT worked on five Beatles albums, including "A Hard Days Night", "Help", "Rubber Soul", "Magical Mystery Tour" (engineer), and "The Beatles" (engineer) - also known as the "White Album". Drummer DENNY SEIWELL and Guitarist LAURENCE JUBER were both members of Paul McCartney and Wings.
