Computer Age
It almost seems that Neil Young will never release his long-rumoured Archives box set as long as there's a better way to do it that hasn't been invented yet. But, with this, can we assume that this will one day be the norm for box sets and, eventually, albums? Is this how music will be marketed in the future?

Blu-Ray?
It does look quite good, but I don't fancy shelling out for a Blu-Ray player just to listen to it.
As far as I can see it includes the 2 recent "Live Archive" releases (see the 10 covers at the end - also note Journey Through The Past seems to be there). They were excellent packages, audio cd and interesting DVD, in terms of navigation and content.
He says he's been waiting for the technology but I'd much prefer he continue in the Live Archive fashion and I'm sure many others would too. It's good that you can apparently navigate content while listening to the songs, but I don't particularly want to have to put my TV on everytime I want to listen the music. For this reason I don't think this format is really the future.
In my humble opinion,
any delivery platform that involves you having to watch as well as listen is a non-starter. One's attention is distracted, and the listening experience is diluted.
Watching musician's actually produce the music for real is another story of course; there's an empathetic connection as it is being made, but having to look at a different artist's output (the visual artist's work) while listening to the music is, for me at least, a lessening of the musical experience.
Music is for your EARS and your head guys; wake up, it's not rocket science!
Unfortunately, the delivery platform is controlled by accountants and suits, so there you go. Man.
Hmmm
I'm inclined to agree. I don't want a Blu-Ray player: DVD is just fine, thanks. So I'm a leetle pissed off that Neil Young's embracing the format. I too have loved the two releases so far and would be very happy if they just carried on like that please.
Ever see the DVD Audio of his Greatest Hits album? The video content was a record playing. For the whole album. What a wag.
