I Feel Like Funkin' It Up

drakeygirl's picture

If you've got a spare four minutes and need cheering up, just watch this glorious, glorious parade scene from the first episode of Treme. Keep going past the short bit of dialogue in the middle, otherwise you'll miss the brass really kicking in...
(Caution: couple of rude words in it, but you're all grown-ups).
The song is I Feel Like Funkin' It Up by The Rebirth Brass Band.
If it doesn't make you want to march down your road playing a trombone (imaginary or otherwise), then someone may need to check your pulse.

God, I love this.

Thanks, Drakes. Treme just makes me smile almost constantly.

Its a joy

I was *slightly* wary due to the hype machine, but the first episode was a sheer joy - and the second is a treat I'm looking forward to immensely.

"Somewhere out there on the internet", I found that someone had collated all the music - both source and actual tracks - in one place by episode and episode one has been on high rotation this week.

I particularly liked "Bumping Against The Wall" which was by Mystikal, and thought I'd not heard much more from him - turns out he was banged up a few years ago - the internet is a wonderful place.

I thought it was kind of slow, and some of the characters

are ghastly - that DJ for instance - but I'm prepared to keep going with it. Lots of music and a good cast and may yet turn out to be about something.

I like the fact that it's loose, and rambles.

Makes up for all the over-plotted gubbins that's been so lauded lately, and ends up just coming off as soap opera. Treme feels more descriptive, somehow. I'm not necessarily holding out for much in the way of plot - I'm just enjoying the expansiveness.

You're right about the Steve Zahn character, though - but at least he's convincingly drawn. He's an absolute little twat, but I think he's supposed to be.
