I come to praise him...
Morrissey that is! Had the great pleasure to see him in Hull last night (although the less said about the venue the better). Was my eighth time I think and, by a country mile, the best. I don't wish to debate his worth or why his band are not a patch on his previous combo - a point I strongly disagree with by the way (and I LOVE the Smiths). No, I wish to praise the mans voice. After all the stick Dylan gets for his failing pipes on this blog I wanted to say what a wondrous thing Moz's voice has become. Simply amazing and it just seems to be getting better and better. Am afraid the poster some way down here who sold his tickets has made a terrible mistake, Moz is as good as he's ever been and you owe it to yourself to see him in his (and the bands) current pomp.

Morrissey
Always found him vastly overrated myself. The fact that you have seen him eight times could possibly make you a little biased,no?
I was about to make the same comment myself
I never saw the point of him really
And the fact that you haven't
might also cloud your judgement?
Of course. That goes without saying
Your right
I am obviously biased and make no bones about it! However, my point was about the quality of his voice which, as I stated, is a thing of beauty at this time and should be appreciated as such.
i only hope......
the next beatles/stones/martyn/dylan post is dismissed without justification as quickly.
What was the venue? I saw
What was the venue? I saw The Smiths twenty five years ago in the Hull University student union...
Hull Arena.
Who's day (night!) job is as an ice rink. Resembled nothing more than a cow shed to these eyes though!
Morrissey on ice!
Now there's a thought...
I agree
I saw him two weeks ago and his voice is still great. He can still deliver live, but he needs a lighter touch than the current band line up provides. Of course he's a 'heritage act', but definitely a gig worth catching.
Stodge...
...I agree: I suppose I'm casually interested in Morrissey (hey - you don't have to love him or hate him! Who knew?) but I'm baffled as to what possible satisfaction he or his fans get from the utter lumpen stodginess of his band this past umpteen years - and getting stodgier by the year, if a recent appearance on Jools where his vocal quality - attested to above, and one of his USPs - could barely be made out above the ramshackle clatter of the rockabilly bumpkins behind him.
Take away Morissey and NOBODY, not even Boz Boozer's mum, would want to see or hear that band - it's like Oscar Wilde jamming with the Edgar Broughton Band: subtle genius at war, and losing, against a veritable phalanx of over-amplified, unloveable pub-rock.
Surely not even Morrissey diehards would disagree?
New Entry
Gun Shy - 10,000 Maniacs from the magnificent In my Tribe - beautiful song about the singer not wanting her brother to be in the army. Very poignant.
