...or would have been. The man who invented rock 'n' roll.
One of the greatest records ever made
That's my favourite too
But is it about the 'brown'?
Ahh, the Wolf... now you're talking!
This one isn't too shabby either...
This song scared my mum when she heard it as a young lass...
The first I heard of his - a true master
Just remembered!
If I Were A Bird. The end of this tune is Loaded by Primal Scream. Pretty good bit of plagiarism I thought...
One of the best singers
of the 20th century.
Woo-hoo...
Well Done Twang
One of the absolute greats, The Chess Box is essential
With the great Hubert Sumlin
Wolf man
Respect to the 'wolf'.
Remember Brian Jones introducing him in a very posh Cheltenham accent and telling the audience to pipe down on 'Ready Steady Go'.....and then sitting at his feet like a disciple?!
I think it was actually 'Shindig':-
This is an album cover!
And if anyone has heard said album, its not too bad. Sort of Jimi Hendrix inspired cover versions of his own songs. For no apparent reason.
He seriously did
hate that album. And with reason. It was a cynical attempt by his record company at the time to sell 'authentic' blues to the Great Psychedelic Unwashed who had been turned on to the form by the Stones and Hendrix. The Wolf was way past his best and his performance throughout is bad-tempered and half-assed. Muddy Waters was enticed into doing a similar 'psychedelic blues' album too. With equally unhappy results.
Apart from this:-
Gotta love the Wolf.
"300 Pounds of Joy"
This is my favourite Howlin' Wolf track (written by Willie Dixon, but it fits Wolf like a very large pair of comfortable trousers). Funny lyrics and a great shuffling rhythm. Good for the dancefloor:
Not the inventor
I'm not about to undermine the plaudits for the music listed above as we probably wouldn't be where we are today without it, but Howling Wolf's main output came after Hank Williams had already released a number of proto-rock and roll singles. It's a lot easier to argue Hank's case for being the man that invented RnR although there are some that might go further back with evidence.
Great Wolf Ripoffs #1 - Jeepster
Marc Bolan my arse
How Could I Forget This One!
How could you indeed?
(look up a bit)
D'oh! How about this one.
Way better!
And way filthier lets be honest...
Here's a documentary
This is part 1 - the rest are in the links beside it.
A wizard, a true star
