However much money Adidas are paying David Beckham....

David Hepworth's picture

...they're certainly getting their money's worth. Here he goes head to head with NBA star (and former soccer player) Kevin Garnett to see who can chip a football into a basket. It's impossible to think of another white sporting star who could mix it up in this kind of company.

Jonny Wilkinson

could, I suspect, do the same trick but not, perhaps, in such a casual, off the cuff, manner

maybe 10 years ago

his leg would follow the ball into the hoop if he didn't today the guy's been known to throw his back out winking.

the same adidas

who are trying to manoeuvre a move for him from the lower profile team they sponsor (LA Galaxy) to a very high profile team they sponsor (AC Milan) in anticipation of the next world cup ? Or am I just being cynical?

It's precisely because his world is so cynical..

..that his genius - which is for combining talent with charm - is so remarkable.

I'd have been even more impressed,

writes a pedant, if he really had chipped it. Those were all lobs. and therefore rather easier, although Beckham's was still pretty damned impressive.

And, yes, I'm aware that I'm missing the point of DH's post. Just another "Someone Is Wrong On The Internet" moment, I'm afraid, and sadly

Can he do this?

All fake of course - or are they?

The thing about David Beckham is...

he seems like such a thoroughly good bloke...

...and he currently has no peer that can match his talent so he can carry on turning up in England squads until he's fifty, as far as I'm concerned.
