I note that this is in the entertainment section of the BBC, and not the Sport section.
A great idea, I believe. Even the 1990 New Order song was rubbish in my book.

No OFFICIAL world cup song...
...but we'll still be subjected to a slew of unofficial dross. Rik Mayall's first out of the blocks. Oh, and Baddiel and Skinner's tune is being updated. All that's required is a swift update of the number of years of hurt. I wonder if they'll go in to the studio and the producer will just drop in the vocal 'forty'. Shouldn't take more than a morning.
44
.
Not living up...
...to my name, there. '44' doesn't scan, Candice-Marie.
Just because I've never understood
Why does any year in which England hasn't won a World Cup count as a year of hurt?
"Green Fields of England" George and the Dragons- World Cup Song
Check out "Green Fields of England " by George and the Dragons, World Cup Songs are still alive!
I'm all for single issue Users
I'll have a go at writing one...
Inghilterra, Inghilterra
Ti voglio bene
La migliore squadra del mondo
La passione del calcio
Inghilterra, Inghilterra
Il nostro allenatore è italiano
Si chiama Capello
Quest'anno Inghilterra vincerà!
To the tune of 'Nessun Dorma'
Sensible decision
They know they can't improve on this so why bother?
There are already 2010 songs on youtube. I'm not posting a link because they really don't deserve the publicity.
Thank you.
No matter how bad, I would have followed that link out of morbid fascination. I owe you 5 minutes of my life.
Hopefully someone will see
Hopefully someone will see sense and make something.
Perhaps Kate Bush. (What's she up to now anyway?)
Rumour is
Song For Europe this year.
What, Kate Bush? Surely
What, Kate Bush? Surely you jest!
then Dancing on Ice
next year
Macca
X-Factor.
Keith Allen
Engerland, engerland...
Your back four are slow and burly,
And they flag out ten minutes early.
Engerland, engerland...
The Portugese always nail yer
Cos they know your heroic failures
Engerland, engerland...
The hype is always massing
Even though you're allergic to passing
Engerland, engerland...
Your spine always end up in the quicksandage
Even though they look so look so fetching in a bloody bandage.
Engerland, engerland...
If the football doesn't sate yer
You can always stab a local waiter.
Engerland, enger - oh, you know the rest...
heaven's above Pax!
I'm no particular fan of my own country, but I can only assume you hail from one of those nations that failed to qualify - like Scotland. Or Wales. Or Ireland (N or Rep. of).
No,
I'm English, Badartdog, and despite my affectionately-intended homage I shall be following them as fervently as my fellow countrymen. I know where it'll lead though...
The Best World Cup song is
The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme
By Colourbox, he says, stating the bleeding obvious.
I don't want to scare you...
...but you've just given me a poperection by mentioning Colourbox.
Don't take it personally...
If you manage a pop shot...
please don't tell us about it. :-()
Ron's 22
If they really want to "concentrate on the football" (sponsorship engagements cancelled, then?) why can't they just re-release one of these classics?
Spoilsports.
"Soccer Superstar" - Jess Conrad & Tanya Tenola:
"England" - Kevin Keegan:
Did someone mention
World Cup songs?
Partridge's first law of World Cup songery:
The more rubbish England world cup songs you hear, the more you want them to get knocked out before the quarter finals.
God save the England
God save the England Team
Duller than Aberdeen
Riddled with dull has-beens
God Save our team
Make them victorious
And less laborious
Too rich and whoreious
God save our team
God grant that Stevie G
Can score a penalty
So we dont lose 2-3
God Save our team
We know that you won't win
As sure as Posh is thin
George's Cross in the bin
We hope and wait.
Can we have this, please?
This please
