How excited am I about the Mott The Hoople Reunion?

anythingcanhappen's picture

Answer = very.

But with all approaching 70, it might be a finish at 9 for cocoa and an early night.

Very Very Excited

I saw Ian Hunter in Milton Keynes a year or so ago and he turned in a cracking evening but most if not all of it seated. The voice was holding up well though such as it ever was.

Extremely!

.

0
James Blast | 16 January 2009 - 6:04pm

you sure started something !

Just hope genuine fans get tickets and it doesn't end up like that Led Zep 02 fiasco where "celebs" like Ian Wright and WAGS somehow got tickets and became genuine lifelong Zep fans overnight .

Hunter's been knocking out great albums for years and his regular UK tours over the last 16 years have been superb . He's in great shape - hope the rest are !

Honaloochie Boogie yeah !

Much as I like Mott,

I think the chances of any WAGs turning up is rather remote, to put it mildly!

Johan | 16 January 2009 - 11:20pm

Genuine fans?

What's a 'genuine fan'? I'm not sure I understand the term.

One who has all the albums?
One who bought all the albums on the day of release?
One who can still produce their ticket stubs from seeing Mott in 1970?
One who saw Silence in Monmouth in 1968?
One who saw The Soulents in Ross in 1964?

Not sure I like the idea of some sort of apartheid between 'real' fans and 'casual' fans.

0
stimpy | 17 January 2009 - 3:17pm

I thinks it a pure destinction

between those there for the music and those there for the kudos of being seen there. Doubt it'd be the case with Mott but if it was Bowie or the Stones?

Then again I saw Kate Moss rockin out like a good un at the Racounteurs at the Astoria as any average fan would so who's to judge? Or it could have been the nose ningle

It's the buggers buying tickets to sell on Ebay you gotta worry about not Mrs Shilton and Keegan (sorry I don't know anything about football)

DogFacedBoy | 17 January 2009 - 6:29pm

Baby if they just say they care

I'll follow them most anywhere

0
Mr Fade | 16 January 2009 - 11:36pm

Phew!!

So I wasn't tripped up by a premature Uncut newsflash. hate the thought that I got people's hopes up

Mott

Just bought tickets to see Mott in October - two nights. Taking a week off work to get there and see them - from Australia. According to the unwritten criteria does that make me a true fan? All I know is that, early finish for a steaming mug of cocoa or not - it will be great. I mean their live albums have all shown they were at their greatest when they played loose and ragged, it made the mooments of sublime brilliance stand out all the more! Mott never made it down to Australia in their earlier incarnations, and Ian Hunter has never graced our shores either, so the only option was to sell the house, pawn the kids and get on the first available flight...

kcgrady | 22 March 2009 - 3:19am

Wow...

I feel guilty now about only going for one night, and then only from mid-Wales.

0
stimpy | 22 March 2009 - 12:23pm

I would be

the worst promoter in the world. I can't believe they've sold out all those shows. I'd have bet on one, max.

0
Johan | 22 March 2009 - 10:07pm

Finish sounds ace.

A nine o'clock finish sounds ace to me, although I'm not keen on cocoa, and would probably substitute it for tea.

A nine o'clock finish would mean time for a couple of drinks afterwards, and still home for Book at Bedtime. Excellent.

May I suggest

that someone who knows the lie of the land suggests a suitable watering hole to refresh our traveller's thirst. I will also be staying in a suitable hotel for 1 or 2 nights, fit for an old fogey who likes his comfort and hot chocolate.

Perhaps we will recognise each other by sporting a rolled up copy of The Word under our arms or wearing lapel badges that state "Mark Ellen Is Ace".

Suitable Watering Hole - A Simply Spiffing Idea!

Thanks Beany for such a splendid suggestion. The trip from Australia will certainly be made 'a la cheapo' and purchasing over-priced bevvies whilst on the plane may not be an option. (Have to keep a few coins aside for the tour T-shirts etc!)A relaxing dip in the enticing pint glasses of certain establishments around Hammersmith may be just the ticket! I'm happy to be seen carrying the Word under my arm, but the 'Mark Ellen Is Ace' badge may be taking the cult of personality just a tad far!

How can Wordies recognise each other

Apart from the beards and bundles of £50 notes of course (sadly I have neither)?

Perhaps instead of a cover disc, the magazine should come with a pin-on badge. Slogans could include "I remember Hepworth and Ellen from Whistle Test but really I preferred Bob Harris", "If it ain't Word it ain't worth a very reasonable subscription" or "I am the intelligent life on Planet Rock".

I still have my old Rocking Vicar badge

In spite of the professed anonymity of it's authors, I'm conviced the Rocking Vicar Parish Magazine was the proto-Word

May 2009 Mojo has a Mott-themed CD

and 12 page retrospective. Some nice pictures in there that are new to me

"Did you see the suits and the platform boots?"

Features

my all-time favourite Mott track. Nay, one of my all-time favourite tracks of, er, all time.

Thunderbuck Ram. Just Spotified it and love every blinking darned note.

0
Beany | 24 March 2009 - 6:00pm

I'm only doing 3

It will be strange but I can't wait.

I saw them 36 years ago and although I love Mott and have followed Hunter through thick and thin, I've got this nagging feeling that it'll be a big let down. I'm not 11 any more.

My fave MTH track is The Journey.

For all my love of Mott, the best gig I saw was the Hunter Ronson Manc gig touring YUI Orta.

During that tour, I fully appreciated what a guitar player Ronson was and he died within a couple of years of it. His palying was incredible.

As has been mentioned before, Hunter's always been good value. Voice a little shaky now but he always makes you feel you matter.

Fanboy stuff over now!

anythingcanhappen | 25 March 2009 - 1:50am

Will it be a let-down?

I think it could go either way. I suspect they won't be polished, slick shows - some of these guys are barely working professional musicians any more!

I'm thinking it'll come out like a good, competent pub band - that's not necessarily a bad thing though (says the man who plays in a good, competent pub band).

I'm confident they'll be good, fun shows and they'll definitely be memorable - for one reason or another!

0
stimpy | 25 March 2009 - 12:35pm

Lets hope

there is some serious rehearsing in the next 6 months then.

0
Beany | 25 March 2009 - 6:04pm

Ian Hunter

is apparently 70 this year.

Anyone order tickets through Ticketweb?

My pal and I had a roller coaster ride trying to get tickets:

First we both found we couldn't get any.
Then we both found them on Ticketweb, too late at night to phone each other, and ended ordering twice as many as we needed
Then we received confirmation of the orders but still no tickets

All my attempts to get a human to answer my queries to Ticketweb have failed. I get nothing but automated replies and suggestions that I look up the answer in the FAQs.

Now I know that for some gigs they don't send out tickets until a few days before - and this is among the many bits of FAQ answers that Ticketweb throws at you - BUT, nowhere does it tell me whether this is one of those gigs or not.

So you see my concern: I may or may not have tickets, and unless Ticketweb reply, I may have to wait until a few days before the gig to find out, by which time it'll be too late to do anything if I haven't. I will also have to have booked flights from Glasgow and accomodation by then.

What annoys me most about this is that they are sitting with over £100 of my money, yet seem to feel no responsibility to answer my question about where the goods are.

I've never ordered from Ticketweb before, so...
Has anyone else had this experience?
Any suggestions?

Or is this God punishing me for selling my tickets for their 1974 Edinburgh gig at a profit after I heard that it had been cancelled?

Ticket terror...

I bought my tickets from See Tickets and they have informed me tickets for these shows will not be sent out until 14 days or less before the show. That really surprised me. Is that how it's done in Britain? Here in Australia when you buy tickets you get them in the mail within a day or two of purchase. I'm worried that my tickets may be winging their way to Australia whilst I am winging my way to the Old Dart...

0
kcgrady | 31 March 2009 - 1:37pm

Ticket Terror

I think they do this to make touting more difficult, but at the same time it is stressful for you and I, the honest customer.

It's great that they send them out so promptly in Australia. Here in the UK, it's common practice to treat customers like dirt, because the vast majority of them seem to be happy to take it and come back for more.

Best of luck with it - I know how you must feel.

I wish all tickets

were like those bought from the Southbank for the Royal Festival Hall. You often get em the day after you order. I assume this is just like when you buy tickets in person from the box office they just prints em off.

I similarly had a wobble when my order for the second night of Spiritualized at the RFH went through but i got no email confirmation. So about 4 hours later I phoned to check if the order has gone through ok and was told 'yes sir, they're already in the post' Maybe cops they are the venue and ticket office they have some sense of what their customers expect

FWIW i've ordered from Ticketweb countless times with no worries but their customer service is piss poor. A simple way to track orders via order numbers can't be that hard to set up.

Bought a couple of tickets

for Current 93, last year at Southbank, and arranged to pick them up at venue. Imagine my suprise when all I had to do was put my card in a slot and out popped my tickets...lovely service

0
Mint | 4 April 2009 - 8:20pm

Thanks for the reassurance

This makes me feel a bit more confident.

I agree the credit-card-in-the-slot service is great, but only once you get the tickets. Many a time I've stood with a group of excited children in a crowded cinema, a knot in my stomach, trying to come up with what to tell them if the machine should fail to recognise my card.

Anyway, I've now managed to get a human response from Ticketweb (a last resort on their part, when I started using legal terms). As if to prove that it's from a human, the second word is mis-spelt:

I apologies for the delay in responding...

He goes on to say:

I have checked your booking and your tickets have not yet been dispatched. I cannot guarantee when they will be sent but it may not be until nearer the date of the event.

The 'may not be' gives the impression that they don't have much knowledge or control over things. With this in mind, I'm sincerely hoping I don't have to rely on their customer service again should it come to this:

If you have not received your tickets 7 days prior to the event please contact us again.

last concert I booked for -

the tickets arrived a day and a half before the show. Like I said - the *last* concert. Am sticking to spotify and illegal downloads from here on in.

Update

Nothing new to add- just wanted to say excitement and expectation building exponentially. And thought this thread deserved to be back on the recently updated list...

kcgrady | 19 April 2009 - 4:55am

My Tickets Have Arrived

After total silence then only vague reassurances from Ticketweb, my tickets for the 3rd October show have arrived.

The tickets include a phone number, which they're pretty careful not to divulge elsewhere, so if anyone else is having a problem with Ticketweb, let me know and I'll be glad to oblige.

Only flippin ditto

I hope nearer the time there will be a general consensus of if/when/where there will be a meeting place for the Massive to flex its mighty beer drinking muscle. Any locals with a knowledge of old London Town welcome to comment. I intend staying in traveller's lodgings on Friday and Saturday night.

Beany | 9 August 2009 - 8:44pm

Spare Ticket Here

Due to a panic, both my friend and I got three tickets each when we only needed three. We've off-loaded all but one.

I'd prefer not to get into eBay, accusations of touting, hanging around waving it about etc, and I would like the seat to be filled by a deserving fan.

Does anybody want to buy it (at the original price)?
