How Did 'The Word' Know It's My Birthday?
Hoorah! Happy Birthday to me, and amongst a rather meagre selection of cards lands the new issue. Already read Mr. Hepworth's article on the afterlife of songs, something that's fascinated me for ages. Richard Coles is always interesting on 'Newsnight Review' (or whatever it's called these days), so I was pleased to read more from him; couldn't find much fault with the Best and Worst, and it was a real treat to see the talents of Eddie Marsan featured. (More of this sort of stuff please!) Still needs more letters space though.
As a man of more 'mature' years, with each passing birthday friends are finding it hard to cater for me present-wise, and so along with the (requested!) pants I find myself with a higher proportion of HMV/Waterstones gift cards than usual; all gratefully received it must be said. Any advice from the massive on how I should spend them? Even as a dedicated Word reader I still feel a bit out of the loop re. new stuff, so any suggestions welcome.

Serendipity
I've just got back from HMV with my birthday present (I had to buy it for myself, despite several heavy and heavy-handed hints) - San Patricio, by The Chieftains & Ry Cooder. I'm on track four as I type. So far, it's as fab as I expected it to be.
I'm also after the Texas Sheiks: Geoff Muldaur and friends revisiting 1920's Mississippi music (I think). http://www.tradition-moderne.com/eng.php/page/content:artist_a_cd/cd_id/...
It explains the concept better than I can.
Oh, By The Way
Happy Birthday!
Thanks!
Cheers, many thanks.
Lucky you
for sharing a birthday with Rupert Murdoch, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, John Barrowman & Didier Drogba. What a fun night you going to have tonight going for drinks & nibbles with that lot. Happy birthday.
Crikey!
You're right, it is a rather ignominious bunch isn't it. Can't believe I've never Googled my birthday before and I'm struggling to find anybody of any real merit (with the possible exception of Thora Birch). Thanks anyway.
