How did I miss this?

Maybe everyone else is aware of this, or maybe no-one cares, but I think this is incredible.

Connie Talbot, an eight-year-old girl from Walsall who came second on a reality TV show and has been almost completely forgotten by everyone in the UK, recently got to number in America with a cover of a Bob Marley song. How totally bizarre. Apparently she appeals to Christian record buyers.
Anyway, it lead me to wonder whether there has ever been a genuinely decent record made by a child singer. Surely there must be one...

Tanya Tucker
At the age of 13:
wow
That is great.
I forgot about these guys. Kitty, Daisy and Lewis.
Hang on
"Appearances on chat shows Oprah and Ellen have boosted her profile, as has the support of Christian record buyers in the US who appreciate her clean-cut image."
Clean-cut image?! Are we supposed to believe all other 8-year-olds are shooting up on street corners or something?!
Does 11/12 count as “a child”?

Glad to read that Simon Cowell passed on signing Connie to his label. Clever clogs.
This is much better than the orginal
Too late
for the last edition of The Word. No doubt it will feature heavily in the next one. Eh?
Didn't the Yanks take quite a shine to our young Aled Jones and Charlotte Church too?
The ur-child pop star surely?
Frankie Lymon claims not to be a juvenile delinquent
Stevie
how old was he when this was recorded? 11? 12?
Holy cow
I've never seen that. Astonishing. Proof that some people are just born geniuses.
and let's not forget...
...that for all his problems as an adult, Michael Jackson was astonishing when he was just the 11 year old singer in the J5
Fact-checking at The Telegraph
They might want to check their facts, as there's no appearance of this song in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100. I think it went quite high on one of their numerous sub-charts, which isn't quite the same thing as being `number one in America'.
But looking at what is in the top 50, it wouldn't surprise me if it did well.
Mr Hepworth would be delighted though - masses of non-white, non-male acts, i.e. Beyonce, Rihanna, T.I., etc etc. What a shame our national music mags aren't giving them masses more coverage. I propose Ne-Yo for the next cover of The Word. Can't wait to see the sales figures...

Donde esta Santa Claus?
Strangely, this song by Mexican child star Augie Rios is the only song helping me to feel Christmassy so far this year:
