Home is where the wallet is...

From the Manchester Evening News...

OASIS star Noel Gallagher has offered to play a gig for the prospective new owners of Manchester City. The "staggered" Blues fan heard about the takeover while in Canada at the start of his band's world tour.

And he says he's stunned by the millions Arab businessman Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim is prepared to pay to bring players to the club.

"Well, can I just throw my hat in the ring here and tell him that I'm available for any after-show parties he wants me to play at, if he's throwing that kind of money around," said Noel.

He told BBC Radio Five Live: "It'll be nice to know that every gallon of petrol a Man Utd fan buys will be going into City's transfer kitty."

- If Dr Al-Fahim has any sense he will go for the Ting Tings instead.

Gallagher

Still a good value interviewee after all these years. And let's face it, Gallagher Snr's pronouncements on Citeh are a million times more interesting than the latest Oasis offering.

Credit where it's due....

...you can rely on Noel for good quotes.

kb | 3 September 2008 - 3:10pm

I've always enjoyed a Noel interview.

Enjoyed this one on the Smiths.

Lee Rimmer | 3 September 2008 - 3:30pm

great stuff that, alright

Despite that 'oh god, not an Oasis special in Q' thread elsewhere, I'd happily read an interview with Noel in Word, so long as he wasn't allowed to mention the new album. Or the last one. In fact most of them.

That Smiths 'monologue', is wonderful in that it's not the cocky self-promoting eejit we're used to; that's a fan just raving about his favourite pop-group.

ivan | 3 September 2008 - 3:55pm

Favourite Group?

This week, they're not even in his top ten. He prefers The Bee Gees.

Fraser Lewry | 4 September 2008 - 10:39am

so do i

if i'm totally honest...Never got the Smiths.

Anyhoo...moving swiftly on!

ivan | 4 September 2008 - 2:47pm

That was beautiful...

If you ignore the industrial language (which I wouldn't really want to do because Noel swears better than anyone), that was a seriously spot-on analysis of The Smiths' music.

He is a lot brainier than people give him credit for...

Patrick Crowther | 3 September 2008 - 7:40pm

Noel the everyman

his response is typical of footbal fans who don't seem to care where the millions come from as long as it's their team getting the cash. Does it matter that major culutral instituion are being paid for by money "robbed" from poorer countries or financed through outragious loan deals well most big team fans don't seem to care a jot.

Chris G | 3 September 2008 - 3:36pm

I quite like some Oasis

Herewith my confession but I quite like some Oasis. Noel and an acoustic is normally good. Wonderwall is still good. Quite a bit of stuff on Definitely Maybe is alright.

There. I said it.

Lee Rimmer | 3 September 2008 - 5:03pm

Nothing

to be ashamed of Leedslad, they write catchy stuff and der brudders provide consistently good copy. I wore sky blue in the Blur v Oasis skirmish ( although I must admit that I never saw active service ).

eddie g | 3 September 2008 - 7:07pm

Couldn't give a stuff about Oasis' music...

but Noel Gallagher is a genuinely witty bloke with a fine sense of humour. I think he should buy Bernard Manning's old gaff and start a new career as a stand up...

Patrick Crowther | 3 September 2008 - 7:29pm

It's Official

Noel is alright. Lets have him in the mag - at least in the what's he been listening to, watching & reading bit.

Lee Rimmer | 3 September 2008 - 8:31pm

I thought his response to the Led Zep reunion

"Not fookin' loud enough" (as reported on the podcast by Mr Ellen) was the choicest four-word critique of the evening that anyone could have come up with.

Archie Valparaiso | 4 September 2008 - 8:10am

Ah

That was actually Liam

Chimney Singing Crow | 4 September 2008 - 10:04am

Trouble is...

He might bring his little brother.

Beany | 3 September 2008 - 8:36pm

I don't begrudge Noel his slight gloating...

He has been a Man City fan for years and he's obviously very excited about what the future might hold for the club.

I picture the scene from The Matrix where Neo walks through the metal detector and the security guard looks at him and Neo opens his leather trench coat to reveal about fifty assorted weapons strapped to his body and the guard craps himself.

I suspect this is how Man City and their fans are feeling at the moment.....Neo is Man City and the guard is Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal/Take your pick.

The new owners apparently make Abramovich look a bit tight for cash.

Scott Wilkinson | 4 September 2008 - 7:49am

Money for nothing

Robinho is a trojan horse, you mark my words.

Archie Valparaiso | 4 September 2008 - 8:11am

Yep

He's no Jermaine Beckford that's for sure.

Lee Rimmer | 4 September 2008 - 8:45am

Titus Bramble

Great name for a folk-rock group

Beany | 4 September 2008 - 8:58am

Think that’s the first time

I’ve ever LOL whilst reading this board. 12th on the bill at Cornbury. Mike Harding session.

Richard Lowe | 4 September 2008 - 3:08pm

Agreed...

usually they're called something like...

Shufflebucket

Three Men & A Goat

Scrumpy Jack

Patrick Crowther | 4 September 2008 - 5:29pm

Leedsboy......

How's Andy Robinson shaping up for you? Good servant for us (Swansea) for many years. Nice guy as well.

Steve Hill | 4 September 2008 - 9:36am

Good I think

He gives us some width and has chipped in a couple of goals. He looks a decent player. We just need the team to gel a little more. Swans are looking good as well.

Lee Rimmer | 4 September 2008 - 10:39am

Cheers

Ta for the info - he'll get you close to double figures if he doesn't pick an injury. He's a bit greedy sometimes, trying to beat a man too many rather than play the simple team pass but he'll score a few long range efforts that will get all of Elland Road off their feet.

Us? Happy with our start but its a long hard season ahead of us. Unlike most teams my biggest fear is losing our manager rather than our "top" player. Fully believe that Martinez will be managing at the top level in the next few years (not necessarily with us I hasten to add).

Anyway, enough of football......back to music.........

Steve Hill | 4 September 2008 - 3:16pm

Well good luck

and I hope the Hammers or Toon don't go after him. They should, but I hope they don't.

Lee Rimmer | 4 September 2008 - 6:59pm

Noel Speaks

Noel is great, very witty and always has a good story to tell. I really like him on the Russell Brand Podcast (for those who haven't heard it, he joins in the show most weeks).
